Lexus Smart Key Questions
Hey All,
I have a rather dumb question... so we all (assumed) have the remote key to unlock/lock doors and open the trunk. In the remote is the removable key (or emergency key?). What exactly is it used for? I recently had a loaner from Lexus and the removable key was not in the remote that was given to me for the loaner.
Just curious. Please don't bash too hard as I'm still relatively new to Lexus.
Also, I just moved to Los Angeles (90025) about 2 months ago - always looking to make contacts out here!
Thanks all!

first of all if the remove battery is dead, you can use the mechanical key to open door / trunk
inside glove box there is a button to "lock" the trunk, meaning the button won't work anymore. and then you can use the mechanical key to lock the glove box. that way both glove box and the trunk is completely locked except with the mechanical key. if you do that and hand over the fob to the valet, they can park your car but your valuables are protected

Few uses I can think off of the top of my head (when thinking about the ISx50)...
>To open the trunk if you engage the trunk lock (trunk lock is in the glove compartment, bottom left)
>To unlock the car if the battery in the key fob dies. You can just pop off a piece on the drivers door handle, under which is a key slot, put in the physical key to open up the door. Then you can start the car by holding the dead key fob up to the start button and pressing start. This is to prevent you from being stranded.
>To lock/unlock the glove compartment
And since your new to the area, try and come out to the Friday night meets or something, you'll meet a lot of other CL members

The mechanical key is also used to close the windows in certain Lexus models that have it enabled by the dealer.
