Default took my car back from Longo noticed this

i took my car in on Monday to replace a windshield molding. the technician also recommended the dashboard rattle and rear brake lubrication services because these are known issues occur on my car, which i do occassionally hear. i picked up my car this afternoon and noticed the tank MPG figure is only 12. it was a healthy 23 when i dropped off the car. they only put 4 miles on the car so no excessive joy ride involved. the only reason i can think of is in order for them to work on dashboard they maybe unplugged the cable to the tank MPG meter and it resets itself, other than that they must've abused the hell out of my car ( I seriuosly doubt that) to get that number down to 12 with only 4 miles, lol.

if they were working on something electronic, they could have disconnected the battery and therefore it would reset your AVG MPG. Or they could have took your car out for a joy ride

This probably happens at most dealers. You gotta make sure you let the advisor know you are **** about them 'road testing' your car and that you are closely monitoring the milage. I would advise them that failure to comply, I will raise hell, give them a bad survey, call corporate, and demand future services free of charge.

Never happened to me before. I would guess that your car was left running for a while and that's why your MPG dropped so much

Leaving car idling is 0 mpg, not 12.

I picked up my car from a brake and oil change service and it had a 50 mile difference on the odo. I was pissed and complained to my SA who assured me it was only for road testing. I asked how far they had to go to road test and she said as much as the tech needed. Since then they def don't take it further than 2-3 miles each time. Jerks.

50 miles to road test?

thats more than i drive a month (Garage Queen)

these type of threads always remind me of the s2ki posts i saw about a member taking his S2K for a tire change, coming back to the people at Sears telling him one of the techs flipped his car.

It happens to me to when i give my car to any dealership, but I try and service almost exclusively with Longo Lexus too. The cars idle for quite some time so that's why they get pretty bad gas mileage once they are out. For instance, I picked mine up today after 2+ weeks at Longo Lexus. MPG was around 11 MPG, but the battery wasn't disconnected. One time I picked mine up after they did disconnect the battery and the MPG was 6.x That was just because they had taken it on a road test 2 miles and then the rest was driving around the dealer lot and mostly idling.

I've never had an issue with Longo Lexus taking my car out for extended road tests - if they need to take it out for extra testing, they let me know.

Essentially, you are getting 0 mpg while idling, regardless. Not talking about the mpg gauge. His gauge was registering 12 mpg, meaning someone was going WOT a few times to get that kind of mileage. You can't just get 12 mpg from just standing still.

If he came in with 23 MPG, its not hard for it to drop that low just driving the car on the streets around the dealer and then the whole time its idling at the dealer itself too. The excessive idling alone will drop the MPG a lot.
