Called a variety of rebuild shops and the answers varying. Was common if the bearings were gone they would use Chinese or Taiwan ones on the replacement. Parts kits were mostly China sourced. The prices were pretty good from $75-100. One shop had been in business for ~40 years and were rebuilders of other assemblies like starters. They were also listed as a Denso authorized seller, however they did not sell the remanufactured Denso units. Their rebuilds have a 2 year warranty. I didn't use them but they were the most helpful so if you are in a similar situation they may be worth the call:

In the end bought a Denso remanufactured unit that on the box has "made in USA". Bought from Rock Auto at $144 which includes the core charge and shipping. $35 core refund then the $5.65 for the reduced RA return shipping label.

Happy to help. Have read and heard many horror stories with the auto parts stores lifetime versions. My neighbor relayed that his bro-in-law is on the 4'th one from O'Reillys.
This one went into the Corolla. An easy swap fortunately at about 20 minutes.

i work at an auto parts store. go with denso. it'll last you longer than any "lifetime" warranty alternators which are also remanufactured (such as BBB/endurance, MPA). we sell denso at our store (not an oreilly, autozone, or pep boys)
