Default RR Racing Road&Track Coilovers -- Special

Hey all,

So we sold a bunch of our new RR-Racing R&T Coilovers and getting great feedback on them. Right now we are running specials on these coilovers for IS-F fitment. For pricing please PM us! Also offering special package deals with our Ultimate Steering Response System bushings (USRS).

Features:

(1) Adjustable Monotube shocks (NOT TWIN TUBE) construction results in better traction and response due to much larger piston size.
(2) All billet aluminum construction means high strength and much lighter weight (20-30lbs less) compared to steel twin tube shocks like KW.
(3) Hypercoil springs -- available in custom rates to suit all applications.
(4) Articulating upper spring perches -- take a close look at our competitors... the springs are flat mounted to the upper plates -- that means that as the suspension moves, the springs bend which adversely impacts shock performance and spring rate.

(5) 100% Made In USA -- Shocks are custom built and valved for us by Afco Racing Shocks in the USA. Hypercoil springs are the highest quality springs you can buy, also 100% USA made.
For a more technical analysis of our suspension, please check out our suspension white paper here, for feel free to ask any questions on this thread:

Rafi,

Can you go into some detail on what your missing from the Penske set-up vs the Afco coil overs?

Obviously there is about a $1000 difference between them so what performance benefits are you missing by going this route instead of Penske?

Thx

Sure, that's a great question. Let me start with what's the same: The top plates/bearings and bottom stainless bushings are the same, as are the Hypercoil main springs and helpers springs. Also the valving is based on the valving we developed for our Penske setup.

The difference in price is more like $1800 though, and is due to the cost of the shocks. The Penske 7500DA shocks are simply a really high end double adjustable shock. It offers double independent adjustment of compression and rebound damping, whereas the Afco's are single adjustable. The Penske's are essentially a double reservoir shock with a special internal head valve. All these special features on the Penske shock increases the cost, and also leads to subtle improvements in shock response, consistency. All these subtle design differences reduce aeration of the shock oil and improve performance.

That said, Afco Racing makes a really nice custom shock to our specification. It is definitely a more performance oriented shock compared to a twin tube KW. Twin tube shocks are limited in piston size, and piston size is critical to achieving proper damping and contact with the road, particularly at higher spring rates. Compared to cheap mono-tube shocks from Korea (like BC), they are simply higher quality, and can easily be rebuilt by us every 2-3 years for a very reasonable price.

Would a 2011+ model benefit from the same improvements as the older/harsher models for this R&T model? Car will be mostly daily with 5% track but would hate at the track to realize it's worst or just the same as stock.

I definitely found an improvement, but I currently have the Penskes that RR Racing developed. I track about 1-2 days of the year. I was after the single adjustable Penskes that RR Racing had before, but there was some part availability issue. It's good to know that RR Racing was able to create this product who don't want to fiddle with rebound and compression. You'll see improvements, but it won't be night and day like the 08+.

What do you mean that "Penske retired the shocks themselves"?

Does that mean that RR no longer has access to the 7500 DA?

I'm talking strictly about the Penske SA Shocks (Sold before) and not the current 7500 DA shocks. I believe they stopped with the SA because of some part issue.

We were going to offer a Penske single adjustable coilover version, but we didn't do that because the cost savings wasn't worth it, so we looked to Afco Racing to make us a custom shock that would allow us to offer a great suspension at a lower price point.

The benefits would be significant as we use significantly stiffer springs, without resulting in harsh ride, and also allowing you to lower the car without resulting in harshness or bounce.

Just a bump and clarification.... Generally it take us 1 week to ship these coilvoers, but in some cases we have them in stock, so if you are in a rush, please ask.

Just want to thank those who ordered... and I just want to emphasize that this is the BEST time of the year to order these as we can do the lowest pricing possible right now!

There is no comparison in performance and quality versus the cheapo BC coilovers -- don't make the mistake of saving a few bucks now to regret it later!

More suspension testing at Watkins Glen last weekend. This time with the IS350 equipped with our Road & Track coilovers:

Rafi - can you comment on the changes/differences between the V2 vs V1 road & track coilovers? Some changes are obvious (from Afco to Silvers, and a lower price point), but wanted to hear from you what else has changed (valving, etc.) to drive the lower price point. Is it simply the cost of the shock, or did you change anything else? Is the V2 version the same performance wise as V1, or has that changed?
