as far as i know, nop. i asked about that when i bought my is300, the answer i got was i have to pay for update

Yes, Lexus originally offered 2 free updates on the hard drives for the 98-2000 model year Lexus models. This ended in 2001. No longer, does Lexus offer free updates for the Navigation.

This information is directly from the Lexus Area Office:

Please be advised that due to memory capacity issues with the hard drive (HDD) based navigation systems (used in 1998 - 2000 model year vehicles) there will be no Fall 2004 update. Lexus will continue to make the Fall 2003 update HDD available for those customers requesting or needing it.

That's weird, I was told that 1998 GSs get 2 updates, 1999 GSs get 1 update, and 2000 GSs don't get any updates. Could you please confirm this?

my 2000 GS still uses HDD with Fall '99 map. It's OLD.

any 98-00 Nav equipped car should be able to take the Fall 2003 HDD update.

Too bad we couldn't get an 03 updated hard disk and make a disk image. Then buy a cheap hard disk, burn the image and load into our GS.

damn.. I want those updates especially my house is sitting in the middle of no where base on the current version. Still try to justified the $248 for seeing my street on the map.....

Anything else on the new version? I was on my co-worker's ES330 and her Navi has more graphics and icons.... will that come with the 04 update??? Please advise.

I'd check with your local dealership as well. I ordered mine and then called my local dealership. It would have cost me the exact same $$ (taking shipping + ver04 discount vs. local tax and 10% off discount).
