why do these look like chrome painted stock grills?

Good question, checked their website and for the 98-00 Chrome Grill it states

"Fully chrome dipped replacement grille for your LS400"

Sounds like a stock ABS grill that has been dipped in a chrome plastic. Still might look cool.

Now I don't have a choice but wait for the aftermarket one....

can we use or stock Lexus "L" Badge for the new grilles or are these to be bought separately? I destroyed by stock grille doing the DIY chroming and need a replacement

Pushin, for your '99 GS 300 your old badge will fit the older style grille but if you elect to get the newer style with the "bolder" look you will need to purchase a new , larger lexus emblem. Cost is an additional $20 for the Lexus "L".
