Yes, thats one of the main benefits. It gets that barrier between your wash mitt and the surface. It also works at pulling the dirt away from the surface before you touch the car w/ a mitt, again, reducing any chance of inducing any swirls/scratches
yay got mine today! how do you know which tip to use tho? i use meguiars gold class soap... which is pretty thick. which tip would complement that kind of soap?

Start out w/ the green tip. This is probably the most common one used.

Again, I'd start out w/ the green. If its a molasses like soap, you might try one tip larger than green
