I currently have the blue illuminated sills stock from the factory but I have a 2006. Will this be a plug and play or will I have to tap?

no Only the 07-08 2IS are plug and play UNLESS he has the luxury or sport package.

Yes, that is correct. All but the '06 base model are plug and play.
