you can go with an older LS1. 97-04 camaro/firebird with a Tremec T56 trans. Looking at about $3k-$4k. Or you can go LS2 for a bit more. Or LS3 or LS7 for quite a bit more.
You can also choose an early years camaro/firebird LS1 and rebuild the motor the way you want it for a decent price.
If you need an engine, I have a few sources and I can put you in touch with them. I also deal with LKQ, one of the largest dismantlers.
