EPSOM, UNITED KINGDOM – August 17, 2010: The moment drivers get behind the wheel of the new CT 200h, there will be no mistaking the sporty character of Lexus’s debut model in the luxury small car market. Great attention has been paid to perfecting the ideal driving position, with seat design and location, steering wheel position and even the angle of the pedals calculated for the best possible results.

Lexus considered this element of the full hybrid CT 200h to be so important, it even came up with a new engine air intake design so that the bonnet profile could be kept low to ensure a clear view from the low-set driver’s seat, without compromising pedestrian safety performance.

The result is the sportiest driving position of any mainstream Lexus production vehicle, much in line with that of the high performance IS F. Central to this achievement is the low hip point of the driver’s seat, which has been brought as close as possible to the car’s centre of gravity.

Did they just say the CT compares to the ISF (well the driving position that is)? Might have to book that ride and drive after all to see for myself.

Nice to see things learned with the lfa is making its way to the CT (focus on optimal driving position and lowest center of gravity possible, etc).

I might have to do the same. I'm a bit skeptical about the claims but mostly because of the drab hybrid stereotype. I'm still think they should've come out with a similar powered engine with a manual transmission. Hell even if it didn't have the off-the-line torque like the hybrid it would still be more engaging and more fun to drive.

But I'll hold final judgment until I test drive one. I give it a 7/10 for design (mostly because the concept was just so much more bold and youthful). It's on my (fairly) short-list of cars to buy next.

This car is so odd to me. Some pics I just hate it and others I just love it.

wow lexus is going to have to do better than this for what ? 35k? what's this selling for ?

styling is already looking dated before it's even being released!

and in all honesty, a relative has a HS250 and it sucks major sausages! performs horrible, no power and braking sucks. I literally have to time myself when coming off a stop so that it picks up power to avoid oncoming traffic.

No one knows the price. We know your hate for the HS 250.

I honestly could care less about them as I won't be buying them and hardly know anyone that does.

I have high hopes! Now it they would just add another electric motor in the back and make it an AWD pocket rocket!

PRIME POSITION FOR A SPORTY DRIVE
Lexus focuses on ideal driving position for new CT 200h

KEY POINTS

Lexus configures ideal driving position for new CT 200h full hybrid – the sportiest set-up of any regular Lexus production model
Driver hip point brought as close as possible to the car’s centre of gravity
New air intake system designed to ensure bonnet profile can maintain pedestrian protection quality without compromising forward vision from the low-set driver’s seat
Driver’s seat includes additional lateral and lumbar support
Design enables drivers to make the most of CT 200h’s agile handling and responsive performance
The moment drivers get behind the wheel of the new CT 200h, there will be no mistaking the sporty character of Lexus’s debut model in the luxury small car market. Great attention has been paid to perfecting the ideal driving position, with seat design and location, steering wheel position and even the angle of the pedals calculated for the best possible results.

The result is the sportiest driving position of any mainstream Lexus production vehicle, much in line with that of the high performance IS F. Central to this achievement is the low hip point of the driver’s seat, which has been brought as close as possible to the car’s centre of gravity.

Low hip point

This is complemented by a new sports steering wheel with a wide grip cross-section, set at a lower, 21-degree angle. The accelerator and brake pedal are also angled to take the lower hip point into account.

Optimised steering column angle

The driver’s seat design – like that of the IS F – has extra lateral and lumbar support built-in to hold the driver firmly and comfortably in place as he or she makes the most of the car’s dynamic performance.

Focus on lateral support

With agile handling, responsive steering and a choice of driving modes, the driver, CT 200h demonstrates that Lexus’s full hybrid drive technology can deliver great driving pleasure as well as environmentally efficient performance.

Lexus will present the CT 200h – the new gateway model for the Lexus range – at the Paris motor show. UK sales will start early next year.

Sounds like they focused an awful lot on the seating and position of driving. I hope they made some effort into the actual driving feel. Like you know suspension, steering feedback, minimized body roll, throttle sensitivity, etc.

I really want this vehicle to succeed but when there's new info popping up focused on the seating position?

Impressive. Seems like a lot was learned from the LFA already. A lot of focus on low center of gravity.

I had high hopes from this car, especially from the concept pictures, but from this latest shot, it just looks like a rehashed Matrix of sorts =/

A big problem for this car is wheels. If I remember correctly, when Lexus did the survey on the CT concept the results came back with like 39% saying that their favorite part of the exterior was the FITMENT.

How do you look at those survey results and then create a set of 17" x 7" 10 spoke wheels that look cheap and fit like an Oldsmobile?
