The cluster also has a small 1-6 number when you put it in Manual and use it.
The GS 450h does not have paddle shifters which I would prefer (love it in the IS and loved the e-shift in the GS 400).
I'll be happy to take pics of the car going in different gears.

lol Hey spwolf, Mister Two is correct here. The GS 450h CVT was indeed a worlds first and I can shift into simulated gears 1-6 and it does work amazingly. I use it to engine brake a lot of when I just feel like keeping it in its "gear" though the CVT is so responsive it really is nearly a moot point.

Alright, you guys are talking about two different things.
I was just browsing the '11 RX brochure and it indeed says:
"at the same time, its performance is enhanced with intelligent shift-control system, a first on any hybrid"
you might think this means it has a shiftable gate, but instead, it clarifies this in the next paragraph.
"The Rx450h is the first hybrid utility vehicle to feature AI Shift control, an intelligent shifting system that can estimate whether you are traveling up hill or downhill and automatically select the appropriate gear ratio for optimal engine response. Enhancing performance even further, a Manual Shift mode enables you to upshift or downship on the fly, providing greater responses and maneuverability coming out of corners."
in sum, the RX is not first with a shiftable gate, but is first with AI shift

Here's a picture I took at the L.A. auto show back in November. Enjoy...
