Default Dealer installed "standard" options?

So the wife and I went out for a test drive today hoping we wouldnt like it. Well naturally we were wrong it feels so right compared to the prius we drove last week. I feel like I still have ***** when driving it. So we got down to numbers. The sales rep gave me the whole 9 about this that. One thing he mentioned was that all the cars come with some standard options that cant be removed. I sold new acuras for 5 years and honda and I know these things are bull****. Here they are:

1.Appearence protection $499.00
2.door edge cup guards $299.00
3.purigen lifetime repl $89.99
4.Theft protection prog $249.00

Did any of you guys pay any of that and is there a way to get out of that. Ive been using www.truecar.com and found a dealer that will sell the premium for $31,844 here in FL meanwhile when I test drove the premium the sticker was $33,213. All that extra stuff turns me off.

Well that may be true at his dealership, but certainly not at all. All those things were presented to me as options when I was purchasing the car, and I politely declined them all. Sounds like a SHADY group if they put that on the car before giving the customer the option.

I'd go find another dealership who acts with a little more integrity.

By the way, the dealer markup on that stuff is INSANE.... so even if you decide that you want that stuff and decide to buy it, I wouldn't pay more than half the asking price for any of it.

Yeah, all that is fluff put on by the dealer to jack the price up. Tell them you'll take one without all that crap on it. If they are selling at MSRP, they'll find you one without that stuff. That is a lot of money they are throwing away if they let you go to another dealer and get a car without all that.

None of that stuff was added to my car. It was offered and I declined. There's not a whole lot of markup on these things, so dealers are trying to squeeze every penny they can.

seems most dealers in Washington are adding about $661 of options:
Cargo spider net
Illuminated door sills
Cargo net, mat,wheel locks
rear bumper applique

Even when I go to the Lexus site to build my own...illuminated door sills are automatically added.

This kind of thing is an indicator of a dishonest dealer. Do not buy from anyone who does this kind of stuff. You know upfront that they will not treat you properly. Contact Lexus corporate and let them know about these kinds of sales tactics. They can certainly take action against such a dealer.

i've been hearing about dealers adding premium wheels and telling people that they won't sell it any other way...easily adds $3-4k+ to the price of the car.

The following are bogus dealers padding add-ons:

Appearence protection $499.00 (wax job - $5.00)
door edge cup guards $299.00 (KMart, - $5.00)
purigen lifetime repl $89.99 (?????)
Theft protection prog $249.00 (????)

Lexus should be ashamed of themsleves that their dealers are doing this.

These are importer add-ons, official Lexus options:

Cargo spider net
Illuminated door sills
Cargo net, mat,wheel locks
Rear bumper applique

Still a ripoff but less of a ripoff!

Yeah thats not good. Best to just walk away and find another dealer to work with. Even if you have to go across the country and have it shipped over.

My dealer chromed the stock wheels and added $2000. They look fantastic on the Starfire Pearl and after seeing them, I had to have them.

I ended up paying around $500 for them instead of the over-inflated $2000 and the only reason I did that is because they are covered under the Lexus warranty.
