let me shake you,

the price for 1 liter (1/4 gallon) in the netherlands is 2,61 dollar (1,80 in euro's) so let me do some calculations,
1 gallon is about 3,8 liters, 3,8 x 2,61= 9,90 for a gallon if you should live in the Netherlands, and still I sold my CT and bought an LS430 2006.

Hope you can live with this answer
Unfortunately I don't believe it's a true 1 to 1 comparison.

I know in many areas in Europe that built into your gas/fuel tax are other things like health care, unemployment wages, etc. that we pay for separately here in the States. Granted it's higher there, but one needs to look at what's in the taxes that make up that price for a true comparison. Our media here likes to do the same thing for sticker shock value and 'good' journalism.

Hmm Bob let me help you with the way it works overhere in Holland,

we pay 30-50 ore 70 % tax on your pay check depending the hight of youre income
we pay per person 120 euro health care a month children under 18 are free
we pay 19 % tax on food
we pay 8 % tax on insurance
We even pay tax to flush the toilet overhere in Holland.

Holland has the highest rate of taxes worldwide, and believe me that what we pay for the gasoline is not used for healtcare, for years we had a leftangled government who thought the sky was the limit, now we have to pay fore those idiots with a rightangled government in this period who are taking care for the problems the leftangled idiots has left. I've been to the states several times, and believe me that you live in a free country where you can live as you want, no work no money. In Holland it was no work, OK we give you money, why should you even think about working then.

Wow.... But like all governments and politicians this is what happens. Over here they like your model so well that they are really trying to copy it When will we all get common sense in our governments and get rid of the greed.
