Poll: What is the most gallons you've put in the tank
The reason for this poll is because I'm doubting the size of the fuel tank of this car. As you all know the manual states this car should hold 11.9 gallons. I've gone below the last hash mark on the fuel gauge and way past when the miles remaining display read 0 and the most I've been able to put in is 9 gallons. Has anybody been able to put in more than that?

it's a common report among all owners. most live with it, stating it's a function of safety built into the car (letting you know to fill up sooner than later) while me, on the other hand, believe it to be a little annoying that nearly 1/4 of the tank is left for reserve. that makes the software and the gauge pretty inaccurate to say the least in my opinion.

Yesterday I filled up the tank with a little over 9 gallons which was the most I ever filled up. Usually it's around a little over 8 gallons...

6.033 gal..... I never let my tank run low and always try to fill up by 1/2 a tank, as the fuel also is uesd as a coolant for the pump motor itself. Besides more air in the tank leads to more condensation and with the way the 10% blend loves to absorb water I don't need to make matters worse.
Just my 2 cents....

The most that I have put in is 10.198 gallons. My understanding is that the Low Fuel Light comes on with 2.9 gallons left in the tank so you can probably go over 100 miles after the light comes on. I've gone over 50 miles this time since the light goes on and I'm going to try to get to close to 100 miles with the light on.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tank is larger than 11.9ga. I own an HS250h with a tank listed at 14.5ga. I've added more than 16 gallons on 5 occasions with the 2 highest being 16.688 and 16.669 gallons.

That's interesting. Did you top off the tank? Meaning did you fill up the tank up to the filler neck? I could see the gas metal tank expanding a bit but not enough to increase buy two extra gallons.

I'm pretty sure it's not due to inaccuracies at the pump. That would be a 15% difference, and those pumps have to be certified periodically for accuracy, with heavy fines for misstating gallons dispensed. Although, I wish you were right, that would mean I've been getting over 70 mpg on my HS (rated at 35mpg), I wouldn't mind those numbers. Additionally, I track all my fillups as to gallons used, miles traveled, mpg, etc, and they've been really consistent for the past year. I do hypermile, but I'm not THAT good.

How do you you do that with out getting worried you'll run out? Do you just go off your mpg's and try to guess how many miles you had left?
