Default DIY: How to replace *all three* of your CT200h wiper blades for $3!

The wiper blade sizes are 26" and 18" for driver/passenger.

Instead of buying $50 blades from the auto parts store, you can simply replace the actual rubber blade itself. $3 - $5. Links here and here. The cost was around $3. You simply use a razor blade to cut it to size. They come in a pair of 28" blades. More than enough for both and you may even have enough left over for the rear wiper. I will check when I get home. I have around 10" left over from the passenger side cut so that should be enough. (Edit: Confirmed there's enough for the rear wiper after you cut the passenger wiper to size. Sweet!) Three wipers for three bucks!

Tools needed:

Flat tip screw driver

Razor blade (or scissors) to trim the new blade to size. Just match it up to the old one.

Tip: make sure you take notes at the orientation of the blade and how the old one slides out so you can slide the new one in the same way.

Lift this tab with a flat tip screw driver and pull the arm out by sliding towards the driver's side. It hooks in and the flap closes when re-installed. Easy!

Remove by sliding the blade starting at the locked/keyed end of the blade away from the arm. It just pushes out. Squeeze and push out. Then the entire blade just slides out.

The blade is separated from the arm.

Old blade with the new blade on bottom. Ready to swap the metal supports to the new blade.

The two metal supports provide stiffness for the blade. You re use them. Simply pull them out of the old blade and re-install the same way onto the new blade. The new blade is tight rubber so it's a bit tricky to slide in. Make sure the curve in the supports are maintained and that the blade curves towards the windshield.

After you install the metal supports into the new blade, slide the blade in the same way it came out. The open end of the blade goes towards the passenger side while the locked/keyed end is on the driver's side.

Keep sliding the new blade in until you reach the end. Then give it a final push to lock the metal tabs into the slots in the blade.

And it's in.

No problem! For years I went to the auto parts store and bought $45-$50 packs of wipers. then i discovered that the refills themselves are universal among all cars and sell for pennies compared!

Excellent post!!!!

I recently got some aftermarket wipers (the whole thing with the metal) for my RCF online. Not only did they not fit flush, but also did not wipe well and left streaks.

I even stopped by a local Toyota dealership looking for wiper inserts, they said they stopped carrying just the inserts. They will be happy to place a special order for OEM wipers (the whole thing with the metal part). I told them, no thanks.

I just confirmed I had enough for the rear wiper. The rear wiper is easy to remove and replace. You just pull it out towards the driver side away from the arm. Pinch and pull. But first you have to remove the cap at the beginning of the arm by lifting it straight up using your fingers. Raise the wiper. Then pull the old blade out. So three wipers for three bucks!

I'll try to make a video of this.

Yes I saw that those links for Amazon were China Sellers so it could be awhile depending on the method they use for shipping. You can't beat the price!!!

Good thing I don't need it right now. So I can wait for it.

man i wish i saw this post a few days ago!!!!

just dropped $30 on new bosch front wipers, and was disappointed that i couldn't use the cool 'aerodynamic' arms on the oem wipers. AND i had to order a rear wiper

i think i'm gonna do this anyways, and keep the bosch emergency, down the line.

Cool =) Update on mine, they work great but they do make a little squeaking sound if there's not enough water as they wipe. So I make sure I set the speed not too fast. I'm not sure if that's my glass in particular, or because the blades are rubber and not silicon? They wipe well though. Maybe i'll try waxing the window. next time it rains.

Try cleaning the windshield with BonAmi. The wipers on my C4 Corvette used to start squeaking with OEM or any other wiper. My mechanic told me to use Bon Ami. Apparently a thin film would build up on the glass. I'd clean it a couple times a year, and no more squeaks.

It doesn't rain all that often here in SoCal so I imagine the next time I'll encounter the wipers making noise would won't be for a while
