2011: Auto Parts store said I can't replace my own battery
Battery is dying and I want to replace it. Went to store, had it tested, came back low as expected, went to buy new one and their system popped up a warning that if the old one is disconnected special equipment may be required to reprogram to onboard computers to have it started again and going to the deal is potentially required.
Is this an actual thing or just a warning they have in case it really doesn't start? Can I do this on my own or do I need to bite it and go to the dealer?

Is this the auxiliary battery your talking about? Its user-replaceable. I did it myself on my 3rd gen Prius. Upgraded to the Duracell brand battery after the original Panasonic died.
