If you all want to diagnose something like this, it would be easier to remove the glass. you can see the four torx screws holding it in (same as on my old BMW) then you can have a clear look at whats going on. Just make sure you make marks or make a visual note on exactly where the bolts line up so you can get the glass aligned nicely. I'll have to check mine for that plastic piece. see if there's some sort of preventive maintenance you can do to it. i have been using my sunroof at high speed lately.. lol.

also on other sunroof maintenance, it's a good idea to inspect and lubricate/re-grease the tracks. i just did this a couple weeks ago.

the part that is in the bottom back corner does slide back and forth so you can get at the back screws for installation/removal. I now remember sliding it forward and forgetting to slide it back and yes that other plastic trim part caught on it. When it slides back, I do remember it having a little "click", so i'm guessing whatever catch is used for that has worn down allowing it to move more freely. without staring at it for a while, i can't offer any advice on fixing it. My solution, I just dont use the moonroof. I either have the heat or the AC on, there is no driving with windows open. Too much dusts or temps just aren't comfortable. I need temps like the Night King is in my car.

When I replaced my sunroof i was pretty **** with getting it installed. one corner too high, then too low, back and forth. I did install it by myself, prolly would have been easier for someone else to put a hand on the outside flush with the roof while I pushed it up to put in the screw.

Yeah I could definitely see the latch on the sliding piece on mine. It looked a little worn down, but I was able to move it back and it latched fine. But since things are bent I haven't put the part back. I love driving with all the windows down and I can't say that I've noticed any more or less wind getting in. I actually kind of forget anything is wrong until I walk passed the piece sitting in my living room. My only concern is that if I spend the 30 bucks on the part, that this will just happen again. Not like 30 bucks is much to waste but fighting with it is almost pointless. Also there seemed to be more grease on the left (damaged part side) than the right, so maybe the previous owner had the dealership grease it and they forgot to slide the one piece back. Either way I'm glad that its not a major issue and that I'm at least not alone in it. But I'd almost say the most preventative thing you can do is just look at it as its closing and make sure that nothing rubs. Mine is probably only bent because it was never noticed and it was closed for probably the 2 months that it sat on the lot before I bought it.
