Courier CT hits 500,000 mile milestone

I have to say I’m really impressed how immaculate your CT looks with that many miles on it. Looks really good. Has the hybrid battery ever been changed or is still the original one that came with the car? What is your all time MPG average?

I use Fuelly (my signature) to tally up my MPG, so I assume 47~ is my all-time average MPG. I change speeds and tires brands/models from time to time but I try to drive economically so that sounds about right.
Thanks! It may have over 500k, but it is only 5 years old, garaged 70% of the time, and driven / parked / maintained / repaired carefully.

I miss my old CT but I still ghost this sub-forum even nearly a year + later. I loved it so much in fact my good friend ended getting one for himself and he loves it too. I remembering mentioning to him about your feats with the CT; and as can be seen.. still is doing awesome.
Nice work on the detail, as a guy who used to do a lot of this on the side, it's not always the easiest feat.

So youve driven 500K miles on original conventional battery and original brakes? Seems pretty far fetched, no offense. Must be in a warm climate and highway miles, but then howd you average 47mpg on the life of the car?

Battery life isn't really measured in miles, but in time. Typically, discharge cycles. Since Toyota has excellent battery management and Raidin does almost all highway (if not exclusively highway) it's not "far fetched" to have his battery run this long. It's pretty common. Check out any 3G prius forum.
Same goes for the brakes. If you manage the brakes well AND drive highway, you really shouldn't need brakes very often, if at all.
As far as highway, when I do long trips in my F Sport, i've gotten up to 53-55mpg before on 200 mile round trip all highway. Multiple times. I can get about 50.0 mpg even without trying, w/ AC on, averaging about 70-72 mph.
So 47 mpg, loaded up w/ cargo, highway, is pretty doable.

I'm not convinced the EGR system is why HGs go, but the only issue I had was the intake manifold getting clogged up.
So far, the engine is completely original outside of the gaskets and elements that get changed along with it, and the water pump and valve lifters (I think?) which have been replaced with new OEM parts.
I have no plans to maintain the EGR system outside of doing the same thing should the same problem come up again.

After ca 15k third problem revealed.
Could the overheating of the engine cause the HG failure?

Overheating is usually *THE* way the headgasket goes. The headgasket gets scrubbed or the head and/or block warps causing the seal to break. This goes for any car, but particularly cars w/ longer blocks (inline designs)
typically V6s and V8s are less prone to HG/head damage when overheated vs an I4 or I6.

Thank you! The hybrid battery AND 12V battery are both still original.

So, @E46CT , will you recommend monitoring the coolant / oil temperature to avoid overheating?
To be honest i have blown HG once in my first car, overheated
Now I use OBD adapter and android app for temp control.
