Default Looking to buy a CT...

...so I have a few questions.

A deer totalled my car (2015 Nissan Altima) last week and I'm now in the market for something to replace it. Everything leads me to a used CT... my budget is less than $20K CAD, I want a good mix of luxury, style, and economy, and because I will need to finance a portion of this I will need it to last a long time without having to invest too much in upkeep. I drive about 30,000kms per year and I expect this to go up next year by a small bit. I drove my friend's Prius (2016) last year and loved it, but hated the interior and exterior style of it. The CT just seems like a perfect fit!

I'm handy, but this girl just doesn't have the tools — literally or figuratively — to be cleaning out the EGR stuff that I've been reading about here. So I'm trying to find out exactly when all of the needed updates that were done the engine to prevent those problems were done. Is it the 2015 model year that should have all the updates or were they phased in over that year or a prior one? Or was it after a certain VIN?

Is there anything else I should be looking at when I go this weekend? Like useless options that might not add value, like navigation?

Any direction would be appreciated.

2014+ is the best year. It is said that 2015 got additional updates but I'm pretty sure 2014+ got them all. The updates do not mean you're out of the woods, but probably buys you more time. If you get a 2014/2015 with 50k or so miles, you shouldn't have to worry about the EGR system for at least 5 years. So just buy a 2014/15 with 50,000 or so miles or less, and enjoy.

Navigation is junk and is from the 1990s. you won't be using it.

Honestly get the F Sport. Well worth it.

I'll second the NAV being junk. I use my phone over it every time.

yeah even when I had a 2020 NX on loan with the latest and greatest nav, i just use my phone. way faster. I tried the Lexus nav screen and it required way too many motions inputs and clicks. screw that.

My EGR didn't cause my problems until past 400,000 miles, so you don't have to worry about that. As long as you maintain the car as prescribed in the manual, you should be just fine.

Make sure you test drive before you buy because the CT rides firm. It handles extremely well, but firm.
