Default My 2015 got totaled!

I loved my CT200h but I got hit last week on the freeway and it couldn’t be saved. So I have to go car shopping and I am paralyzed. I love the mpg and that the car is easy to drive and park. It’s a little tight for 6’4” hubby though. I’m eyeing the Kia Niro. But maybe I’ll get another CT. What would you do?

My current first choice for a replacement for my CT is a Hybrid Rav4. If I wait, the Rav4 Prime (plug-in hybrid version with almost 100 extra hp). You should look at those.

Hyundai Ioniq also seems nice in Limited trim.

Sorry to hear about your CT200h.

I just sold my CT200h. It was just sitting around in the driveway bc I've been driving my RCF instead which is more fun.

Good luck on your hunt for a CT replacement.

Thanks for the advice. My father-in-law bought a new Mercedes GLE yesterday and he’s going to give us his 2014 CLA 250. I told him about my car and asked him if his was for sale, and he said we could have it. How blessed I am! I’m still working my way through the stages of Lexus grief, though. (Raidin’s half-million miler had me thinking seriously of getting another CT.)

As much as I like the lower tier (Honda, Toyota, Kia) tech and updates, they feel like horse **** compared to the CT. You realize how premium and damped the CT is compared to your Hondas, Toyotas of the world. And yes the 2019s/2020s. My CT got hit recently and spent 45 days in the shop. I rented a variety of all new Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans. Good tech, good mpg, but they were all coarse and buzzy contraptions with hard plastic football fischer price interiors. I get back in my CT? It felt like a luxurious suede lined damped, quiet spaceship (reality check in absolute terms, I know it's not) but compared to the others? GOD was I happy to be back in the CT. The attention to details show. You realize how the CT being as small as it is, retailed for nearly 40 grand optioned out compared to a new prius which was a little more than half that. It's cause the attention to details Lexus puts in their cars. Extra seals, thicker metal and glass, more insulation, refined hybrid control software, engine resonance control hardware, interior materials, headliner material. The sum of its parts adds up to a premium experience a new crap box from Honda or Toyota can't deliver. It's cute and attractive after reading reviews to get a new Honda hybrid or whatever, but in actual real world use back to back? Feels like crap.

So I've thought about this question too. If I totaled my CT, what would I get next. Yes an ES hybrid is better. Same MPG but in a bigger more luxurious body. Same w/ UX. but you're also looking at twice the price. you can get in a 2014/2015 CT (the better years) for half the price of an ES or UX. So at the end of the day, the point of a hybrid is cost optimization. Then honestly i see no better car than a CT. A used somewhat high mileage ES hybrid would come in close second though.

E46CT,
please elaborate on why 14/15 are better? Mine was 15 and I never had any trouble. I got it at 24,000 miles and it got murdered at 53,000. The MB GLA I’m renting now is a nice little car, but the Lexus runs more smoothly.

We have a MB GLA250 4Matic and concur. The GLA has dual clutch transmission and very jerky on start up VS the CVT on the CT.

That’s exactly my experience with this one. It jerks starting off from a red light or such. It’s like when you drive with the parking brake on. After you get moving it’s great. I wouldn’t buy it. Hope the 2014 CLA I’m being given isn’t like that. I’ve ridden in it but I’ve never driven it. I think I would have noticed that even as a passenger though.
Update:
Did a little reading. The CLA has the same DCT as the GLA, so I should learn to embrace jerky starts. Or maybe if I just never stop it will be fine. I guess a free Mercedes might not be as good to have as a Lexus with a monthly payment. It’s not like I have to keep it. Maybe I’ll end up trading it in for a used ES hybrid.

I totaled my 2015 NX a couple of weeks ago. I downsized to a 2019 UX 250h F-Sport. It's a fun little car. Maybe a UX would work for you?

I had a UX loaner for a day and thought that too. But I’m looking for a bargain. Maybe in a couple years that would work, when people start turning in their leased cars. I’d get the hybrid. That CT mpg has me spoiled.
I heard from Geico. They valued my 2015 CT with 53,000 miles at over $19k. Not too shabby.

I, too, just received from GEICO, my valuation on my totaled 2015 NX: $27k (41,000 miles).

It would be a good barometer of what it takes to total a CT. i was a little surprised when mine wasn't totaled. Mine was about $6500 in damages when all said and done.
