Potential owner questions
Hello all, looking to pick up a CT for my wife and I to share as well as take a bit of miles off my ISF. She has a work vehicle so her current Yaris only gets maybe 100 miles of use a month. Want something more modern and safer for her. With the CT, would still be less than 1k miles a month, but if something changes a hybrid seems like a solid choice either way. F sport package would be nice but isn't mandatory as would like a softer/higher ride, but do want heated seats and nav mainly for the bigger backup cam and want white/red with black or tan leather. Anything extra like parking sensors/tilting mirrors/radar cruise would be great but not necessary.
Looking in the $10-16k range, preferably with under 100k miles. Have read that the 14 and better yet 15+ are best for reliability, but with our low usage seems like anything may fit our needs.
Does the battery/MPG get much worse with age or miles?
I assume most any shop or youtube with some tools can handle the EGR cleaning I've read about?
Is it difficult to find the F sport roof spoiler for a decent price?
The local ones I am considering, all have no accidents/clean carfax and seem clean from photos:
1)white 16 F Sport with 90k for $14,800 nav+heated seats - private dealer
2)white 14 with 47k for $16,500 nav+heated seats, only one with a bit of powertrain warranty left. Honda dealer
3)white 13 with 43k for $15,400 nav+heated seats - GMC dealer
4)white 13 with 50k for $15k nav+heated seats from Lexus dealer
5)brown 13 with 74k for $13k nav+heated seats private dealer
Best choices seems like 2 and 4...Thoughts?

Get a 14+ more structural safety (you'll only see that from me) more welds, 94 changes for NVH, etc. Not to mention the engine changes that 14+ got. I've posted the differences before, see my posts.
As with any battery powered car, performance gets worse, but not much. Go see what prius members are getting, theres tons more of them.
Yes it's very difficult to find the f sport spoiler.
just get the f sport it's a no brainer.
ps-- f sport does not ride any lower than non f sport.

btw i'd go for #2 given those choices but i'd hold out for an f sport if you can find one w/ lower miles. f sport also gets trick premium black perforated style headliner

Sadly I missed out on a silver loaded 15 F sport for $14k with 82k miles from a Lexus dealer, but only thing that stopped me was color. I will test drive the 16 and 14 this weekend and see if that narrows it down. Appreciate the input!

Did a little search for you and this came up:
https://www.lexusofroute10.com/inven...KD5BH5E2186142
$17k with 2 years lexus certified warranty and 4 basic maintenance services included. 53k miles for a 2014
A car in comparable size is the Honda HRV. You gain 7 more inches vertically in size and more generous leg room in 2nd row, and 9 more cubic feet of space for storage.
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/autos/...edPowertrains=
Here's a two years newer decent Certified Honda HRV AWD with Navigation and Leather here:
https://www.reedmantollhondaofdownin...d3e8cf896.htm#
$15,990 56k miles
Lexus has the price premium and may need premium gas. The HRV will take plain regular gas.

Looks like you're narrowing down to a CT with navigation. It sure helps to have the rear camera so I would say that is a must have feature as not all CT's have a rear camera.

HRV and any other CUV/SUV is not on the list. Only thing else I may have considered would be 13+ 328xi, only because she likes both cars.

Thank you for that, the Lexus actually seems like a pretty decent price, just spoke with the dealer for more details. Was just a little far as it's 200 miles from me in the south Baltimore area but will consider.

The thing to have is as a minimum rear camera for backup. It helps with future resale values. Anything else like premium packages, leather, advanced safety features etc or CarPlay is a bonus. It is also possible to locate a hard to find Honda Civic '16 or '17 with Honda Sensing (EX trim or higher) in the same price range. This gives you the benefit of CarPlay and using your phone for the best navigation available. I am a former owner of a '17 Civic and it really is a solid all around car and will average 35mph easily on regular gas. Daughter's boyfriend also has a '16 with Honda Sensing and in his words -- he freakin' loves it.

Ok, what zip area should I be using for a search on other CT options. That one caught my eye just because of the Lexus Certified benefit. Once you have the 'certified' benefit, any lexus dealership will honor it for the first 4 services.

Right now honestly the certified 14 you posted seems the best deal, but it's 4 hours from me and they don't ship, so kind of a headache. Some headaches are worth it though!
As far as other cars, the only thing I'm in the market for really is a CT, or maybe the F30 328. Greatly appreciate the help!

I agree. Wife's current car is a Yaris 5 speed, no cruise, no BT, no nav etc. With my 12 ISF, it makes hers look ancient so trying to have her be in a nicer safer car. Nav is useless, but I want it mainly for the bigger backup cam. MPG is honestly not a concern as even between me and her the car will get less than 1k miles a month. I drive 20-30k miles a year with my ISF and avg 20-21 mpg. Great for a 500hp sedan, and on long trips I can squeeze out 28-29. CT will help save a few tanks of gas for me and put her in a car she loves.

If the '14 car that's 4hrs away is your best option, and you're trading the other one in -- you can make a day trip out of it and complete the sale, or drive up over night for a 'car + shopping +hotel overnight getaway' occasion for your wife
F30 328ix option has a concern of it turning into a money pit. Maybe it's not so big of a deal with around town miles being put on it monthly. LIfe is short so get whatever makes her happiest.

Here are two more cars for consideration:
Here's a private sale car. Maybe there's some negotiation room here?
Rare White Fsport CT '15
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ting=262314668
42k miles '15 Fsport CT This one seems like a lease car in the MD area, which was turned over to auction and now sold @ carstock.com

Couple of notes:
- F Sport cars force you into an all-black interior.
- F Sports do ride a little firmer, but like mentioned before, they are the same ride height.
- You don't need navigation for the backup camera to be on the main screen. Look for the Lexus Display Audio Package (you can tell by looking at the controller, which is a **** instead of the rectangular mouse pad thing).
- You shouldn't see any battery performance degradation with miles, only with age (and by then you will probably need a new battery anyway). Same with fuel economy, though proper maintenance should keep it the same.
- Parking sensors, LED headlights, and radar cruise were all individual options most of the time, so you will not see them often.

Thanks all! Found one and just signed with my credit union this morning. Wife will be surprised in a week or two
About a week ago there was a local VA Lexus dealer that had a 2014 white on tan with nav/heated seats and 63k. It was listed for $17250 and it disappeared, but apparently the buyer cancelled as he thought it was AWD for some reason. Saturday I took a peek at it and got them down to $16k plus processing and taxes. The car is Lexus certified also, so I got 2 years/20k bumper to bumper warranty and 4 dealer visits free. Didn't think I'd like the tan but it grew on me and I think she'll love it. Car is pristine and not a single dent or scratch on it. Front bumper on the very bottom has minor nicks, but not visible. Even gave me an option of free new all season or carpet mats. They had a F sport sitting next to it and while it looked a little more aggressive it's not what we need. If anything any ideas for a softer ride or best first mods would be welcomed. I'd like to get the best low beams/fogs available and maybe interior LED kit. Then possibly tint and black roof, but would be her choice.
For what it's worth, I had a buddy look at the certified one in NJ https://www.lexusofroute10.com/inven...KD5BH5E2186142
It had mild rust and chips and minor spots here and there. Not terrible, but not the cleanest used car either. If anyone needs my buddy sent me like 20 photos of it.
Also looked at this one https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing
^Car had worst front bumper(chips on right side, scratch on left side), and drove a bit odd, maybe wheels needed balancing or what. Funny enough it was serviced at the same dealer in NJ as the one above, so also had minor rust. The local Lexus certified one I bought drove better even with 20k more miles.
Thanks again for all the help! If anyone needs a great credit union I highly recommend DCU in New England area(though you don't have to live there). even for a 14 they got me at a 2.24% APR. Hell, the 12 ISF I bought this summer from them was a 3.74%.

Just a follow up post. Surprised the wifey and she loves it. Thanks all again. Will see how it does over the next month and then start the mild upgrades. Thinking low beam/fog upgrade and maybe tint/black roof, possibly different wheels but that's it really. Pohanka Lexus in VA was amazing for letting me borrow the bow and delivering 70 miles away!

LOL, no wonder OP was suggesting I was lowballing my friend on her 2012 CT200h. He was looking for one himself.
