Default Purchasing advice

Looking for some advise on a purchase. I think I have several options and looking for some additional input. I’m looking at a 2017 CT F Sport vs 2020 Honda Civic Si vs 2020 Corolla Hatchback XSE. I want all three of them for different reasons. In the end, I’m looking at commuting 720 miles/week and need something with excellent fuel economy and comfort/sporty. I don’t want something that Ill be miserable driving to work in everyday. I’m drawn to the Lexus CT because I also have an IS350 and an ISF sitting in the garage. I wouldn’t mind adding a 3rd Lexus. The Civic SI gets great fuel economy and is semi sporty with a manual transmission, and is “sporty” comfortable. I don’t think I will get too bored of this but Ive never owned a Honda. The Corolla Hatch has gotten great reviews, its a Manual transmission, and looks semi comfortable. I don’t think I will get bored driving a manual trans and I feel I need it to keep me engaged so I don’t fall asleep at the wheel. They are all about the same price. I also need it to last the next 5 years and 170+ miles with minimal issues. What’s your thoughts on each? Appreciate any input!

I bought a 2014 CT for my job. I drive about 2,000 miles a week. Currently sitting at 556k miles. Only two major problems with the powertrain, both well after 300k miles, and both were known issues with the engine. Driving 60 MPH on the highway with cruise, I get 45 to 52 MPG regularly depending on tires and weather.

The CT is essentially a Corolla hatchback, just dressed up as a Lexus. The Corolla will probably ride a little softer, and the mileage should be close, since the CT is an older hybrid setup (3rd gen Prius).

A friend who owns his own courier company and repair shop runs a fleet of Civics for delivery work. Several of them above 200k miles. He rarely has issues (mostly transmission from what I recall him saying). They are reliable, easy to fix, cheap to maintain, and cost less than a hybrid but get very good mileage. Same can be said of the Corolla.

All 3 cars should fit your requirements easily. It will come down to price and personal preference. If you drive a lot, you might get tired of a manual. Make sure you consider that. Also make sure you test drive all 3. See if you can find a used copy of each that the dealer would loan you for a weekend for testing. I did that with the CT.

I wouldn't really call the CT a Corolla hatchback, at least not in a technical and engineering standpoint. The new Corolla chassis is certainly more advanced and so is its engine. The CT is based on the 2nd gen Scion TC platform so it's a much older platform. The CT will likely have a more polished interior than the Corolla but I'd still vote Corolla since it's just newer and has a lot of newer tech. You already have two Lexus toys so since this is an extra car, i'd go the newest possible car.

Thanks for the advise! I ended buying a 2019 UX200 with 1700 miles. It wasn’t even one of my options. LOL. I got a great deal though. Thanks again!
