Default Bad Radio Antenna?

Don't see anything in this forum on this, so posting this before attempting to get my "YouTube Certificate", being I know nothing of sound systems.

Basically, I get awful radio reception in my CT. Every other media device or mode works and sounds fine.

It is the only car ever that this happens in, not my area or stations that are the problem.

Results are static, and sometimes can't even hear anything but static.

Do I just change my share fin antenna? Remove and put it back?

Edit: It also gets particularly bad when I put the car in reverse.

My daughter's Ct is a 2011 which doesn't have the shark fin antenna. It has the little pole antenna on the roof
Regular Radio reception is ok overall, but the Satellite radio reception is the WORST in any Lexus I've ever owned by far. Signal drops out constantly on routes I've driven with my other cars which have no issues at all. My other Lexus vehicles all have the shark fin.

I'd check the cable and connectors. It may be loose, or not grounded properly.

thanks. Yeah after some reading, and also finding no one online with a related issue, I figure it's just a fluke. I'll pull the radio out make sure its connected properly. Then I'll pull the antenna and do the same. Should have a time halloween weekend to do that.

Where would I look to see its grounded properly? I did pull a wiring diagram perhaps I missed that.

I was thinking the coax shield on the cable may not have a good ground. That may be why you're picking up static. Check to see that the connectors are firmly attached on the cable, not just tight on the receptacles. There's a chance the cable has pulled out of the connector over time (rattling over rough roads, etc).

That makes a lot of sense i was thinking the same.. ive had some odd symptoms on other vehicles when wires simply needed to be freed from a pinch or need some tidying up.

highly unlikely the antenna would come undone by itself.. perhaps a prior repair? my reception is excellent.

Right, guessing / hoping its a fluke thing somehow became corroded or loose, pinched l, etc.

I have no report on it but do believe the front bumper (only) has been replaced. Simply because it looks new and several missing clips on wheel liner to the bumper (but not to the fender).

There is a bad scratch on the roof near the antenna now that I think about it....maybe the antenna was replaced after being damaged by whatever caused the scratch..

Again, not the antenna itself. But if there was a bad crimp, the outer conductor could work its way out of the connector.

That's why I implied prior repair. A bad pinch, crimp, etc etc etc etc. is highly unlikely from the factory. It's not something that would typically unwork itself, undo itself, bind itself, pinch itself etc. without outside intervention.

It's sort of like suggesting all four bolts of the passenger seat somehow undid themselves... automatically. on a 5 year old car.
