CT200 EV not available after rough switching to gas.
Why did the EV mode switching to gas become rough, then stop becoming available? The switching is still being attempted with a clacking sound. All in park/idle.

When the battery gets too low it switches to gas motor. Typically when im idling tor just slowly rolling through traffic this will be a rougher switch to gas. Kind of forced and could be some noise.
Also if my battery is low and it switches to EV it can be a rougher shut off of the gas motor. Sounds pretty normal, at least compared to mine..
However I cannot say there is a clacking noise on mine attempting to switch to EV mode when unable.
When this noise happens, does it get into EV mode or not? I think not based on your post. It just tries, makes a noise, but doesn't switch?

The car will do what it does based on pre-programmed algorithms. Absent any defects or other significant problems, the normal operation of the hybrid should not be of any concern to the driver.
In short, the car will do what it needs to do when it needs to do it. So don't worry about what it does.
