From what I understand the 14+ Gen 3 engines are identical hardware wise (as far as short block goes) to Gen 4 engines. the only difference is a slightly revised EGR (still essentially the same thing), software tuning, intake tract, and a few sensors. i'm sure you've read about swaps.

The true upgrade will be when Gen 5 comes out with the newest Dynamic force engines that are used on the camry hybrid, avalon hybrid, rav 4 hybrid, lexus es, lexus ux etc. The prius and corolla hybrids are still using the old engine.

the dynamic force engine is a whole new world. (cue the music)

Just wanted to update..

I took it into the Lexus dealer for both a checkup and the airbag recall. They gave me a new ES350 as a loaner, which is a pretty nice ride btw.. I went in to pick it up, was told that the car checked out great! I had absolutely overreacted to seeing a bit of sludge on the dipstick.. They pulled the pipe related to the egr, said that it looked pretty clean. Didn't suggest doing a full clean out, and said that running some seafoam for a couple tanks of gas should be all it needs. They also mentioned that by having it inspected, IF I end up having an issue with the EGR, even after the extended warranty period, that Lexus would likely cover it. I fully expected to pay for the inspection, and they did it free of charge.

Good to know glad it worked out. Assume you changed that oil too right??
Glad the dealer did right by you. One near me used to now i think they're all snobs.

Awesome it was nothing. I would do the EGR service/cleaning anyway. Good investment for the mileage and year you have. And yes do an oil change. it's cheap and easy if you DIY.
