Default 1/4 mile guys ?

Just curious, when leaving your IS 350 in drive to race, what gear and RPM do you cross the finish line?

Aloha,
Larry

I can't think of a situation where it wouldn't be in 4th gear at the 1/4 mile line, but the RPM is totally dependent on the size of the rear tires, and power. For me, I'm at about 5900 RPMs (105 MPH).

It would also be dependent on the gearing if we had any gearing options for our car.

I understand all that. I believe ideal would cross the finish line in 4th gear at redline. I was wondering if a smaller tire may actually be bad because you may shift into 5th gear before the finish line which is not wanted. 5900 rpms would tell me that a smaller tire could be used without worrying about going into 5th gear. Thanks guys.

Actually I don't know why I am worried, we don't even have a race track here anymore.

Aloha

The run that I did was with a VERY low profile R compound tire that is 6.5% smaller than stock. With the stock tire, 4th gear goes past 120 MPH.
