Sorry to hear that, Khris. I had the same symptom when my tranny broke. The engine ran fine, but the car couldn't move forward or backward. My torque converter didn't break and it's still in use now with the new built tranny. It turned out all of cluches were gone.

I will go into more detail later but yep, convertor broke!

Finished putting the stock one back in today and drove it home.

If my memory doesn't betray me, I think you have the PI converter. The PI converter company should have warranty on it, though. My Lextreme converter has a lifetime warranty.

Ya, two years. I bought it in July, 2007. I plan on contacting them and complaining.

Go here for a little more info on what happened - https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...converter.html

Hey guys. Met this guy at Mooresville dragway and he does videos for a Grand National club. He was impressed with my car and shot a video for me. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbuhvE20Ch8

The only thing that sucks is that the run right before this one, I had just a chirp of the tires (street tires BTW) and ran a 7.909, wish he had filmed that run. The 60 foot in the video run was 1.983 vs a 1.85 when I ran the 7.909.

No it was actually two Sundays ago....

I didn't go yesterday, it was my wifes birthday. I went to Darlington Wednesday night and figured out that the stock stall speed is no good for drag racing.

Alright guys, an update finally.

Sent my tq converter back to PI on Friday. I am waiting to hear from them to see how much they'll want to fix and re-stall it. Thinking about going with a 3200-3800rpm stall up from the 2800rpm it was.

Exchanged emails a few times with Zohair at Boost Logic. Also contacted atf billets last week to ask a few questoins, they have yet to call me back. I more or less decided that I don't have the money for a "built" transmission.

So, I decided to keep my business with IPT. I already have a valve body from them. I ordered their Raybestos rebuild kit and their upgraded sprag. Also ordered a rather large transmission fluid cooler to upgrade the one I have now. Total came out to about $820 shipped. Their sprag is only 55 bucks. I was assured it is an upgrade over the stock unit, not sure why the other couple of places that have it charge 600 dollars.?.?

I am going to call around and get a few quotes on putting it all together for me. I already called one place and was told about $350 which is not at all bad. Basically told them that I would bring them the transmission without the valve body and I just want them to rebuild it for me. I would then swap the valve body when I swap the trannys.

So in conclusion, for about $1200 I should have a pretty well built transmission that will hopefully last me a bit. This is far better than the anywhere from $2200 (not including shipping back and forth) to $3400 (also not including shipping) that BL, ATF billets or IPT want for their units.

I'm a little worried about how much PI is going to want to fix the converter but it shouldn't cost anymore than a new one. I've done some searching and haven't found many other converter options. I will say that my car is not nearly as fun to drive with the stock 2000rpm stall.

And, I'm probably going to throw in a set of these while I have the transmission out again.

Default NEW PERSONAL BEST TIMES - 1/8 mile!

Went to my local 1/8 track today and had some great results!

Some notes: Freshly rebuilt transmission with Raybestos blue plate clutches, IPT valve body, dex3 fluid and a new line pressure cable. Rebuilt and restalled converter (3200-3400). Running on Mickey Thompson drag radials, stock height (255-50-16's on Mustang alloys). The first two runs I did not have my water / meth injection pressure switch hooked up by mistake. Best 1/8 before today was a 7.874 @ 89.517.

Run 1:

60 - 1.751 (new record)
330 - 5.125
1/8 - 7.915 @ 87.254

Run 2:

60 - 1.787
330 - 5.171
1/8 - 7.952 @ 87.536

At this point I realize that my water / meth is not working and I'm hitting 160 degrees by the end of the last two runs. You can actually see the improvement in MPH with it back on and the first couple of runs after are about the same despite crappy 60's.

Run 3:

60 - 1.881
330 - 5.218
1/8 - 7.962 @ 88.592

Run 4: Throw away run due to blowing the tires off.

60 - 2.062 (spun)
330 - 5.675
1/8 - 8.478

Run 5: New record! This run SHOULD have resulted in an 11.89 or so if I was running the 1/4!!!!!!!!!!!!

60 - 1.681 (new record of course)
330 - 4.971
1/8 - 7.703 @ 88.723!

Run 6: Not as good but still great!

60 - 1.737
330 - 5.043
1/8 - 7.774 @ 89.053

When I launched on run 5 I was cheering to myself by about the 330 mark. I just knew it was going to be awesome by the way it felt when it left. I don't think they did but it almost felt like the front tires may have lifted slightly.

Being on the new transmission / converter and first time really on the MT DR's, I was really kind of taking it easy. Run 5 I launhed at about 2800rpm which I couldn't do before. Run 6 I launched at about 2600rpm. I think my actuall stall speed is around 3400. At least that's the rpm (about) that the engine immediately revs to (watching back the logs) when I floor it. So, I could likely lauch with some more revs.

Now I just need to do it on a 1/4 track to see if I can run 11's!

I have run 5 and 6 on video! I have uploaded run 5 to youtube but it's taking forever for them to "process" it. As soon as I can I will link it here. You can barely make out the time on the board if you look very hard. LOL. I have attatched a time slip scan for run 5.

sounded like your shifts were faster also, i think you said in your build thread you weren't going to do much drag racing, haha. How did PI handle the torque converter situation?

Yes, it is shifting pretty darn good. I was tuning the shift points between runs.

I was NOT running with the converter locked for shifting like I had been. Had it locking in 3rd only after the 2-3 shift. I was running before with it locking at about 3500rpm in 1st and staying locked up for the whole run including shifts. This gets me a little more speed per gear and makes it shift faster but may have been what stressed the converter enough to break it.

The shifting for normal driving can be a bit brutal at times but I honestly like it that way.

Had some trouble with PI but it all worked out in the end. And, the higher stall seems to be working for me.
