Default 93 ES 300 - Head Gasket

Hey guys, first post, please dont flame me if im completly ignorant on what im about to say, just lead me in the right direction.

My fathers car, a 93 ES 300 has a blown/leaking head gasket, and LEXUS here quoted us a couple of thousand dollars to replace it, i was wondering how hard of a job this would be and if there are any higher performance/better then stock head gaskets out there, according to them the main "oil seal" is also faulty/broken. the engine has 160K miles on it, and with-in the next 3 months i should be purchasing this car from him, in replacement for my 99 Ford Escort LX

anyway, are there any motorswaps avalible for this car, or how much trouble would you guys think this
head gasket, and oil seal would be for me, or a shop im pretty good friends with.

Tnx alot guys!

any information i could possibly get on where to find a new engine for this car then? maybe some
swap ideas? oh, and its unfortunantly an automatic is there anywhere i could aquire a manual tranny

I blew my head gaskets a while back. There's no getting around the expensive price of the head gaskets themselves, so if you want to save $$$ take it to a local performance garage. I had to take mine to a place that does hardcore porsche motorwork, since no lexus dealership will touch my car.

The head gasket set costs $262.99 at AutoZone( P/N HS9904PT). Add to this the cost of the machine work to rework the heads and you are looking at close to $1,000. If the oil leak is from the front seal, it can be replaced after you pull the heads. If it is the rear seal, you will need to pull the engine to get at it.

You might try this site: http://www.midwest-engine.com/products.htm They import engines from Japan that have very low mileage, not sure if they carry Lexus engines.

Sounds like a good price to me, I have purchased several Honda engine from them with no problems to date. You might have to pull the intake off of your car and install it on the "new" engine. They put different emisson device on the cars in different countries to meet there local standards, it will be clear what to do when you see the engines side by side. They also have good prices on gasket sets.
