Temperature gauge
Hey everyone, fluctuating temperature gauge issue here. Never seen this before in a gauge. It never really overheated.
it might have if I kept driving it. It’s going in the shop in a couple days. What should I expect? It’s expensive even to change out the thermostat.
Also, I can smell gas if I fill up the tank, but it goes away when the tank is 3/4 and below. Hole in the top of the tank? These two issues are a first for me, I’ve owned 2 lexus cars in the past 25 yrs.
Ive dumped $1700 in this car since oct.of 22 so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Sounds like you may have an Air Pocket inside of your Coolant loop, which may be the cause of the fluctuations. Try getting a No-Spill funnel at any car parts store and filling the system with it, letting all the bubbles escape, and also make sure that your Expansion Tank is filled at least up to Low line when the engine is Cold.
As for the fuel smell, make sure that you never top off at a gas station, it reduces the space for the fumes to build up in the tank, and can cause raw fuel to enter the Charcoal canister, which can damage it, and cause the fumes to escape, resulting in a smell. If that's good, make sure that there are no loose connections or holes around the tank, also making sure that the smell is coming from that general area. If all that is good, just try not to fill it all the way to the brim, at least until any new information comes forth..
Hope this helps and best of luck!
