Default Ride smoothness

I have a 97 LS400 which rides like a dream but my wifes ES300 leaves alot to be desired. Having never ridden in another ES 300 , I don't know what the ride should be. How does your ES 300 ride?

I drove a 1992 Ls400 and compared it to the 1996 Es300 I had and yes you are supposed to feel a difference. But that doesn't mean the Es300 ride is bad. Compare the Es300 ride quality to non-luxery car and you will see what I mean.

I have driven an ES for the last 8 years, and I can honestly say that the smooth ride quality is obtained from the soft suspension system (MacPherson struts), not to mention the quietest V6 engine ever made

Is that fact that it has the quietest V6 ever made?

I'm not contesting it but I was just wondering if that was ever mentioned anywhere in any magazines or awards or anything like that. I had a '98 Es300 and I have to say the thing was very quiet. Not as quiet as our 1997 LS400 coach edition, but quiet nonetheless. I owned a maxima a while back too and all I remember was reading about how ward's auto world kept calling it one of the top 10 engines. I loved that engine too but it seemed slightly harsher than the Es300's V6...but was not harsh in general.

I drove an 02 ES as a loaner for a week or two, and damn that thing was hella smooth. Going over a speedbump feels like nothing compared to my 96. Plus, I feel alot of road bumps with my 96 that I didn't even feel with the 02. But nonetheless, my 96 is great compared to others... And I agree with the quietness, even though you put it in neutral and rev, it's hellllllllla quiet. lol

I think you need to take a step back in compairing a Camry with a soft suspension against a car that costs 50% mroe and was designed from the ground up to ride better; sheesh. <rollseyes>

If it bothers you so much then change the shocks as you probably never have & they're worn out...

My 96 is rock hard. But I put that down to bad Japanese roads.. Japan has the worste road system. More holes than road.. I will be shipping the car back to Australia with me. And then I will replace everything suspension wise.. So any ideas would certainly be appreciated! I am also looking for what size rims to replace my stock 15''s with.. I would like to go to 17's but depends if I go for a drop when i replace everything.. I am starting to understand that I want a smooth brand new car feel back in the old girl.. So will go with sensability over looks I think? .. As for the engine. Well mine is the Lexter (Coach) edition. With the double exhaust.. I dont know wether they were built a little chunkyer. Or the owner before me beefed it up a little. But for a 2.5L, my car is nowhere near quiet? Its loud... And it has a tapping sound comming from the right side? I have had it checked. Oil and fluids are all ok. Belts been changed. The guy I bought it off said it was a traditional thing with Toyota motors? Not sure on that one. I'm not all that mechanically minded?

take a hard turn in that ls400 you will feel like the car is gonna flip. just because the shocks are stiffer doesn't mean it is necessarily a bad thing. some people like the ride a little rougher
