Just picked up a beautiful '99 es300 1 owner garage kept ect. looks great inside out. Had a overdrive issue so I had my mechanic replace the knock sensors and wiring harnesses. Over drive works but it feels like it doesn't coast well. like something is holding it back and the MPG is horrible I got maybe a little over 200 miles off the first fill up. I had a '99 Toyota Avalon years ago and assumed this would run and feel about the same. it doesn't. most speed I've given it is maybe 65mph. didn't want to push the RPMs much over 2000. Going to bring it to a transmission shop next week for them to asses and review. But just wanted to ask the other good folks in this community what your RPM display usually is for 60-65mph highway speed.
Is the issue present on the Highway as well as in the City?
What is the actual MPG that you are getting?
What are the conditions that you drive in?
What is your driving style?
Sorry, it's quite difficult to say anything definitive from the information provided, please explain more about the conditions you drive in, and how you actually drive, here is a thread about a similar issue, the cause ended up being the fact that OP wasn't driving the car a whole lot, hence when the onboard computer would divide the distance flown by the time spent, it would come up to a staggering MPG figure.
A lot of factors affect the fuel consumption, not least of which is the way you drive. I know in LX you can move by vectors instead of solid paved roads, and its tank is definitely larger, could that be a reason behind better fuel economy..?
My driving style is super economical using gravity to come to stops and the opposite of a lead foot. Very grandma like. and I just picked up the car so I have been driving it every day to see how it runs and what not.
I'm gonna plug in a obd for my app to read out live mpg as this car doesn't have a on screen display for that information.
The driving feels normal in the city but on the highway is where it seems to suffer more.
