Default P0446

I had issues with venting and not being able to pump gas. This issue was resolved. The tank was nearly empty to about 1/4 tank, I then filled it up without any issues. I have filled up at least 4X since, and this problem has been resolved.

Within 2 minutes of leaving the station, the CEL and TRAC lit up like NYC. I scanned the Car and the only code that came back was P0446. I reset the light and it appears that every 20-60 miles, it comes back on again. Once I stopped, shut off the car, removed the gas cap, put it back on, and drove, and within 1 minute, the same thing. So, it is intermittent.

I ordered an OEM Gas cap, but do not feel this is the issue. It is worth having an extra one.

The car was inspected by a reputable mechanic on a lift yesterday. He smoke-tested and there were no leaks. He stated it was the valve next to the vapor canister. The Vapor Canister Vacuum Switching Valve.

Part # Genuine OEM Toyota Lexus 90910-12271 Vapor Canister Vacuum Switching Valve

I am getting conflicting and different information from other sites. This one has 3 hose attachments, which I believe mine does as we were both under the car.

Can someone confirm the part #? The dealer site states this will fit. I e-mailed them and am awaiting an answer. The online Lexus dealers are about $40 more, and in NJ even worse, so this was a good option. I may call Boch Toyota South (Nucar now), as they are friendly, knowledgeable and I have ordered from them before for my old Corolla.

My car is a 1999 Japan Built. I may have to call a dealer, but they have different versions. Attached is a picture of the part under the car. Hopefully, this is the issue and not the EVAP Canister. The mechanic stated that he tested current/voltage. Thank you.

I just heard back. They just canceled the above one, and stated this is the part #, but it is out of stock.

Part # 25860-62010. This part only has 2 hose attachments. The old one has 3 hose attachments.

I just peeked under the car, and mine has 3 hose attachments, just as shown in the picture above. It appears that the large black round object pops right off, so this may be the right part.

Hello,

Your 1999 model year is a bit of a unique specimen, in the middle of transitioning to the new engine, hence why sole of the parts are unique only to that year.

It seems like P/N 90910-12109 out of 1997 ES300 will fit as a replacement, and since instead of sitting near the tank, it was located under the hood, those solenoids usually fair a LOT better than newer ones, so you can easily get a used one at the junkyard or here.

You can still consider yourself lucky, I had to make some alterations to replace the existing solenoid that was full of rust with the one from under the hood in my 2000 ES300, here is a thread about it.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

I have sent an e-mail to some Lexus dealers to determine the correct part #. They all look the same.

I need to be 100% certain as I am not installing this, It has to fit or will cause more headaches from travel time, money, etc.

Thank you.

A few dealers have confirmed that the VSV is attached to the Canister. The VIN # against the part to match. It makes more sense to order it together, but I can't seem to get a straight answer with a clear picture. Ordering it locally is $200 more, than an online Lexus Dealer. Has anyone ordered an EVAP Canister, and will it come with the VSV? The part # they gave me is 77740-06093, but extremely difficult to determine if the VSV Valve is attached and if there are 3 hoses to it (small hoses).

If the mechanic replaces only the VSV, and then has to go back to the canister, then it is like starting all over, and then costing just as much labor as a new canister. To the left, blue adapter appears to have the hoses in the location in question. This is the same Toyota Part and still $30 less at the Toyota Dealer.

Can someone confirm that the VSV is attached?

Thanks!
