Hi everyone I have 2001 es300. I got a code for p1349 vvt system malfunction bank one. I replaced the bank, one solenoid with a dorman part, as well as cleaned the solenoid screen, and the same symptoms of misfiring and stiff brake pedal came back that I had before. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with the doorman being a bad brand if I should just get OEM? And replace the other solenoid on Bank to at the same time to be safe? Or could it be a relay or fuse if applicable? Thanks in advance this is my daily, so I want to get it back on the road. I’ve been driving my SC 400 for the past couple weeks.

Hello,
Dorman, pretty much the only company out there I vowed to NEVER buy again, even the most basic stuff never works right, when even the dust cap for the bleeder screws managed to turn into a sponge, causing even more water to be trapped inside, let alone all the other problems they adored me with, I don't know how it can get any worse. If I were you, I would return that solenoid with a large bow on top, or burn it into dust and spread its ashes over ocean. OEM is really not that expensive, may be even cheaper than dorman, so I see no reason to keep it there, here is a Parts Catalogue for your car, and here is a place to get them.
Here is a thread where I ran into a similar enough issue, it describes the steps to diagnose the solenoid itself, and goes further if the issue is not the solenoid, though having lived through it, the chances of it being anything else are minimal.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
