The CEL was on due to a knock sensor error and before I could decide what to do the light didn't remain after a fresh start a couple of days later. Is this normal and if so, what conditions are required?

 

The knock sensor harness likes to go bad and cause intermittent problems your CEL will probably come back at some point.

Hello,

If you have a Scan Tool, check if the code is Pending, which is one step before triggering a CEL, if it is still there, the issue is still present, and the code will come back up, not if but when. You can also try wiggling the wiring under the Hood to see if you can trigger the Code to come back up, which will be a solid indication of the Wiring issue. The Harness to the Knock Sensors is separate from the Main Harness and can be bought separately, Part Number is 82219-33030.
