That's the OEM mirror used in all Infiniti G35 and Nissan 350Z. It has 3 fantastic built-in functions: auto-dim, compass and HomeLink garage control

Lexusk8 hit it right on the head All three functions are indispensable--the HomeLink keeps me from needing to clip an ugly '70s garage opener to my sunvisor, the compass has saved me from getting lost countless times, and last night I remembered why I love my electrochromic mirror when a new, Escalade which has stock HIDs mounted very high, tailgated me for several miles on a dark back road.

The multifunction mirror also adds a high tech, luxurious touch, and it's sleek design "modernizes" the interior of the car a bit.

Juan, if you can find a shop willing to pull your stock mirror and put on a new universal mount, the wiring is easy to do yourself.

quoting myself earlier in the thread:
As for the mirror, it's OEM on several Nissan/Infiniti vehicles (350Z, Maxima, G35), as well as a "dealer installed option" on other Nissan vehicles (Altima). I picked it up in late '02 at the parts counter of my local Nissan dealer, after seeing the mirror in a 350Z. It's manufactured by Gentex (the company also supplies electrochromic mirrors to Lexus, albeit minus the HomeLink, since Lexus puts that in the sunvisor or overhead console). Otherwise the mirror is quite similar to those on the newer ES, GX, and RX models. Wiring was easy--a switched-to-ignition hot for the dimmer/compass, an always-hot for the HomeLink, and a ground screw. Toughest part was removing the stock mirror (with it's weird square mount), and replacing it with a universal mount for the new mirror. I had to call a dozen glass shops before I'd find one willing to remove my stock mirror mount, but finally I found one who did it for free (I made sure to give the tech a nice tip

Thanks for all the great feedback guys! LOL, Bryan, actually, my plate isn't "LEXFAN"; rather, I've got what's called a "reserved" plate in Ohio-- my 3 intials plus a numeral. But, as you can see, I do have the special edition Lake Erie Lighthouse plates like my avatar (the one in my avatar is the old version; the ones on the car are the Ohio Bicentennial 1803-2003 edition plates they started in '02).

Steve,

We have waited so LONG to see your car!

Awesome work! The mirror is a clever touch especially at night in today's SUV dominated world.

BTW, I couldn't find the post about your bent rims, what happened? I thought Mille Migglias were very high quality wheels?

Xenon,

Here's the link to my thread about the bent Mille's. Rims around here need to be ultra strong-- bear in mind that the roads around here are beat to a pulp by the late winter/early spring freeze-thaw-freeze cycle, then driven on top of by trucks. And the severe potholes that I think did the damage were covered by water during a heavy nighttime rainstorm, so I had no idea I was about to hit them.

I've been toying with putting the non-chrome 17's from the '04 LS on the car. I'm fairly certain they're 17 x 7.5 with a 45mm offset, which is the same specs as some of the BBS's Tire Rack is showing for the ES (also with the same 215/50-17 size I'm running). With these, it would be a matter of finding a set of dealer "take-offs" for a customer who wanted chromes or aftermarkets before they left the lot. I figure that's my only chance of getting them at a sane price--I'm sure the parts counter wants $500 a piece for them... I keep seeing the non-chrome 01-03 LS wheels on eBay for $590, but I like the '04 style better. It's a shame there are no OEM options for 17's on the ES...IS wheels require spacers, while GS 17's are too wide. I've never seen an ES with LS 17's, but if the specs do indeed match those of the BBS's recommended by Tire Rack, I'm assuming it while be a go. That's one thing I miss about my '95 BMW...plenty of OEM wheels to upgrade to... It seems as if Lexus OEM wheels are pretty hardy... a relative who lives nearby has a stock '01 IS with 215/45-17 (which is less cushion then then my 50 series) on OEM rims April-November, and has never had a problem with pothole damage.

I also keep seeing these knock-off Brabus Monobloc VI's (love the machine aluminum finish) on eBay that are the perfect size (and supposedly have a lifetime guarantee), but I figured I'd be disowned by my fellow CL people for A.) buying cheap knock-offs B.) even worse, buying cheap knock-offs of a Mercedes tuner wheel

At least I have some more time with the stock 15's while I decide what to do for summer wheels.
