I did a very similar mod to my 98. I wanted to have the same look as my TL because I like the really soft glow/ambiance. I put in 3 (but have removed one since then, so I'm down to 2) 3mm blue LEDs that I mounted in the sunroof control/dome light panel with LED clips. Mine seems to be aimed differently than yours, they illuminate the shifter area more than the radio area. I think I posted some pics in the GS subforum, and I will post some pics when I am finished redoing them (I'm planning on recessing them to eliminate the slight glare).
I don't really like the red that you used, though. It looks good in bimmers because all of the other lighting is red, but I don't think that it is a well suited color for a Lexus. It might be okay if you plan to convert all of your other lighting to red, but I think it looks a little out of place the way you have it now. You might also think about mounting them a little differently because it looks a little tacky with 2 nude LEDs hanging down from your headliner.

Don't worry about what others think, dude. I think you got a great idea going. I did the same thing, but I used white LEDs instead and I hid the LEDs between the maplight switch and have them angled properly towards the center console. People won't even notice it was there...

Here it is with the light on. Cabin is completely dark, by the way.

I bet when you change to the BMW orange, it will give it a very nice and soft diffused glow. The red is quite garish.

You might get pulled over by a cop if its easily visible from the front/rear of the car.
Try moving it to the black trim area right above the cupholder, underneath the radio. And hook up footwell lighting to the ignition ring light wires so they turn on when you open the door. Red doesn't really match anything...i would try amber leds which look more classy and matches with the interior color scheme.
