New HU ! Dedicated to all the nay sayers
I have finally finished my custom wood and hu installation with the help of other elite projektz members and i just wanted to show you how my dream became a reality. If you all remember back a few weeks ago I posted a new thread discussing the topic if i should get a new hu. I seem to remember about 98% of the people who responded said no, and that it would reuin the look of the dash. I beg to differ. As long as you have clear vision and a bit of knowledge anything is possible. So to all those haters out there BEHOLD!

I am going to put more pictures up, but last night when i was loading pics my internet or the cl website was having problems. I'll give a full shot to show how well the wood matches.
I got the wood as a special order from exotic wood dash. The wood is made by a company name B& I (i think) who supposedly makes oem lexus wood. I really like how it looks, and it's nice to have the hu to receed back into the dash when the car is off (for security purposes). I plan to finish the wood up the center console and the rest of the dash when i get the funds.

Wow, that's a perfect match for the special edition birds' eye maple! A B & I wood kit may be a mod this summer on my '96 (Lexusk8 know how much I want the wood pieces for the window controls )

I love it.... I also wanted to ask another question.. I notice that alot of you guys seem to put in small head units.. I have a double din Sony system.. What is the situation in the States.. Are they available, or too pricy, or is that they are not popular?.. I dont know if its just me, or what is popular here in Japan. But I prefer a bulky look, rather than having anything pretruding out of the console, I prefer having a flat screen sitting in front of me... Mine is only a CD MD duel player, but alot of people have asked if it is a Navi.. Not yet, thats next... But I am just curious.. Good job on the unit!

SIngle-DIN seems to be the most popular format here in the US, as many cars can't fit any bigger than a single-DIN, and a lot of domestic cars here use 1.5 DIN (1.5 to 1 DIN adapter kits are popular here).

it wasn't wood trim but the custom plate was black plastic. it still looked nice b/c the head unit occupied a lot of space.
