Apparently they are investigating the 2002/2003 Camary/ES300 for a sudden acceleration issue. I'm not sure what the exact circumstances are, but I do know that when I had my 2004 ES330 loaner, several times while slowing for a stop, the transmission downshifted and the car lurched forward. This only happened when the car was cold - it was unnerving however. I realize that the 2004 is not included in this investigation but I'm curious if any others have had this issue with their ES.

interestingly, I very seldom use my cruise control and I always have my foot on the brake when the car is stopped and not in park.

I just heard about this issue as well. Some 30+ crashes & at least 5 people injured according to the reports. Over 1 million vehicles total could be effected should a defect be found which could lead to a massive recall depending on the outcome.
