Upper console face plate question..
Hey guys, I need to get some info concerning the upper face plate of the console.. I have a 96.. I am talking about the upper section where the climate control's and ect are.. I am curious.. I know how to take the unit out, as I did when I replaced my stereo system, but does the actual face plate come off? If so, how? I have some gunk built up particularly around the buttons and ect... Any help is greatly welcome.. Anyone taken it off..

I have a 92 and i took mine apart.. The face plate came off and was just snapped on.. If youtake the unit out just look on the top and there should be some tabs that you have to pry up with a really small screwdriver.. Mine came off and i hope that you can do it.. Let me know

Well I did it, and wow, what an exercise.. It wasnt difficult, just a little hard with the small screws.. I was a little dissapointed though, as I wanted to seperate the buttons, but they dont come out.. I wanted to have the face plate flush with the open holes for the buttons.. The reason I say this is one, I wanted to clean the gunk out, and 2, I wanted to be able to use the plate as a temp plate for my replacement wood grain.. I have found a wood grain decal that matches mine, and so wanted to use that to cover that plate.. I didnt want it to look dodgy, so wanted to get the buttons out to make sure that it all covers in and out flushly.. Will have to try and find out if someone has one that doesnt work anymore so I can use the face plate from that.. I have a double din system below, so I have already had a speacial plate made for that, and the wood grain will cover that nicely.. In fact it looks brand new.. So anyone that has an old climate control face plate that want to donate, please let me know?
