If I do all highway with a full tank & going the speed limit, I can pull off about 500 miles (800 kilometers). Stop & go driving around 325 - 350 with Sunoco Ultra 94.

Depends on how willing I'm able to stretch out the fuel tank

If I do 75% highway driving (esp. on weekends), I can pull off 400-420 miles in a tank. Since I commute to work via surface roads, I usually get 370-390 miles in every tank. Average mileage in my '01 ES is between 23.5 and 25 MPG (best mileage ever done is 28)

I really don't do much driving....I go from home to school m-f, then on fridays/sat around town... its not like i'm commuiting to NYC everday..... i guess its still considered "city".... Do u think the more powerfull engine (330)uses that much more gas....I might try onetime using a higher octane like 94...do u think that will help? The only reason i ask is because the numbers are so spread out...
thanks

I think the main factor here is driving habits. Some people tend to drive faster and accelerate harder, resulting in a lower gas milage. Others may drive much more relaxed, just cruising from location to location, which will result in higher gas milage.

Our mileages obviously differ based on many factors, one of which, as bluepiz has stated, is driving habits. There are many, many others, but rather than listing off the top of my head, here's a decent article talking about fuel-saving tips:

i get 14.2 mpg in my '96 ES. insanely low.

then again, i live on and do most of my driving on a 50mph road with lots of traffic lights.

so basically my whole trip is like:
-accelerate to 50
-dang, light turned red ahead of me, brake to 0
-light turns green, accelerate to 50
-30 seconds later, light ahead turns red, break to 0 mph
-repeat ad nauseum.

i try to accelerate reasonably and keep the tach not much higher than 3k, but i've found it doesnt make a whole lot of difference.

being only 17, gas is a bit expensive for me. thankfully, i don't do a ton of driving, or else it would be absolutely destroying my pocketbook.

i got roughly 208 miles before the gas warning light came on, then i had to drive another 4 mi to a gas station.

i noticed the fuel gauge was at completely empty about 20 miles before the warning light came on. i thought the light migta been broken and i woulda become stranded somewhere outta gas but fortunately the light eventually came on.

That's really low mileage on an ES. Man I don't know I could tolerate that on a daily basis. I can understand the stop-and-go driving style takes a hit on the mileage, but it really puzzles me why it comes out that low. On my previous '96 ES, I used to get 24-26 MPG on average (majority city driving and some highway).

Do you check and regulate the tire pressures? When was the last time you got an air filter change or a tire alignment? Do you use the A/C constantly? Maybe it's time to put in some fuel additive cleaner into the tank. Anyway those are some of the things I'd look out for when expecting poor mileage.

i check the tire pressures once in a while. lately theyre a lil low because of the cold weather we've been having, but nothing really out of the expected range.

i checked the air filter in the fall, it looked clean. ill check it again this weekend.

I bought the car in august, but have never had the alignment checked. that's probably something that I should do.

i live in NY, and haven't used AC since september.

never tried any fuel additives, maybe i'll check those out.

I could go about 250-300 miles on a full tank depending on driving style (gas mashing, more city, more highway, etc.). Last fillup I only got 14.97 miles/gallon.
