Default ES oil pan leaking?

There was some oil under the car and I checked every thing and all seemed tight. I took it to a shop and they pressure washed everything and put a dye and later checked for leaks and found it to be a leak in gasket in the oil pan. The part + labor is gonna cost me close to 230 dollars.

I took it to another shop (for second opinion) and they told me that this was an isolated incient and assumes this due to delayed service on the timing belt????

I’ve got 109K miles and from what I remember, t/belt was replaced at 60K miles. Minor and Major services performed well. Right now I’m leaning towards the first shop…cus’ t/blt typically needs to be replaced every 60K miles…so that would be in the ballpark of 120K for me! But what are all your opinions on this and is the price + labor right from the first shop?

$230 for parts and labor sound reasonable for an oil pan repair. You're better off in the long run to leave the work to the professional mechanics (i.e. the Lexus service dept or a trusted indy shop who has the right tools and materials) because that requires special materials and handiwork

I had an oil leak repaired on the upper oil pan of my old '96 ES a couple years ago, and the fix costed me $400 plus tax Well, back then I didn't know better about my car; I just paid up and shut up LOL

lexusk8, you mention you had the "upper" oil pan repaired.....how many gaskets are around the oil pan? I don't think you mean there is more than one oil pan do you? Please clairify.

I dug up an old thread discussing about the symptoms of the oil leak and other repair info on the '96 ES. Hope this helps.
