Has anyone wooded out an earlier model ES, would love to see what it looks like.. All I have seen here, are people who have redone the dash on 97+ up models.. Curious...

I got the 7 pc kit (the factory trim pieces for my '01 ES are the stereo and A/C cluster units, the small horizontal piece that sits below the A/C cluster, and the wood steering wheel). All '97-'01 ES come with wood trim on the window controls, the ashtray, and the gear shifter console.

I got dark OEM trim. The light OEM is only for those with the Platinum Edition ES (those contain the bird's eye maple wood trim, as opposed to the dark walnut/burlwood trim).

So, it doesn't come with the gear shifter surround or ashtray peice then right? Or is it the 11 pcs kit that has those pieces? Will there kit match existing (door and shifter/ashtray surround) OEM pieces exactly? I already know that the OEM wood is real wood. Also, how can you find out your wood type? Walnut, Burlwood etc etc? Or is it light wood (Platinum ES's) and dark for all others. I know that was stated but I want to be 100% on the ball before buying. My newly purchased second gen ES is Oyster pearl with light grey interior(previously had a modded first gen). I'm looking to purchase this kit really soon.

Unfortunately, no aftermarket wood trim kit will perfectly match the OEM wood. At least upon my standards, I find the wood trim purchased from Exotic Wood Dash to match well with the rest of the OEM wood (plus it adds a certain value to the car) If you're concerned about wood appearance, you may choose to purchase extra wood trim straight from Lexus, but it's very expensive and not worth it IMO.
This has been mentioned many times before: ALL '97-'01 ES300 models have the dark OEM wood trim, except for the Platinum and Coach Edition models (2000-2001) which has the light bird's-eye maple wood.
