Question INTAKE HELP...Don't Know What To Do...

http://www.autopartsauthority.com/co...can~parts.html

or this...
http://www.prostreetonline.com/pso/p...ub=Air+Filters

Is This The Whole assembly or just the filter?
http://www.prostreetonline.com/pso/p...tandard+Intake

Is this necessary? http://www.prostreetonline.com/pso/p...+Bypass+Valves
How do you use them?

What do you think? I want one that the factory sensor will just plug back in. I have never done an intake so I am pretty worried. Does K&N make a kit for the ES300? Would an intake help that much? Any help? Thanks

You don't want either of those. You should look into this http://www.zer0.info/solaraguy/viewtopic.php?t=6375

This is a kit that was designed for solaras, built around using an injen short ram intake. The first link is for just a short ram intake(not really ram air though, just hot air-not good) You can however if that first link has the same dimensions and length as the injen intake use that one, and add the cold air extension kit that danny is selling. Then you would get a cold air intake. They built this kit in conjunction with an injen intake for a camry/solara 97-99 v6. This should would work for your car as well.
As for the bypass valve if you live where it rains or floods alot i would reccomend it.

Cool, i'm pretty sure it's gonna fit. It fits the solara and camry, both mcv20 like your es300. Keep us updated.

Have you (or has anyone) done a dyno to prove / disprove performance gains?

Actually they do work. The short "ram" intakes don't do much but make noise and pull in hot air from the engine bay. But an actual cold air intake does help free up some power, albeit very small in our case for the 1mz-fe, but noticeable. Where it really helps is when you add forced induction.

Understand the concept of cold air vs hot (have one myself on my GS), but is there any independent dyno proof of the increase in rwhp or torque for any brand? Or just seat of the pants impressions.

I assume most of the ES versions are intake only and do not have an ECU that change the air fuel mixture or otherwise integrates with the stock ECU.

I think that I am just going to get a K&N filter for the stock air box because it already takes in cold air from the fender so why bother?

Performance gains from both will be minimal. However many get the intake for two other reasons:

1) It looks cool
2) It sounds cool

Those are some of the other factors to consider if they'll sway your decision.
