Goodbye Es300

Goodbye Es300
Unfortunately, several problems that add up to over 2 grand worth of work have led me to sell my es. I hate selling it but it just comes down to being the smart decision. I picked up a 99 Buick Park Ave Ultra at the auctions for a price that would make it cheaper than fixing the lex. Its a nice car, fast(supercharged) and luxurious but its no lexus. I hate to see it go because its been wonderful. Just under 122,000 miles too. I'll miss the lexus and enjoy my last few days driving it. I plan on getting another lexus after college if all goes well. I want to thank everyone for their support and advise when I needed it. I'll continue to visit and post on club lexus but I'll surely miss being a true owner. I hate to say I'm leaving the Lexus ownership for a buick but its only because thats what I was dealt and its a lot newer. As I may have added before, I'm 17 years old and have been lucky to drive a lexus and even now a very nice buick. Once again thank you to everyone who has helped me for the last year.

it is really heavy, but it evens its self out. 0-60 in 7.5 seconds is quick enough for me.
3,885 lbs to the es's 3, 407lbs..... thats a lot but there is a big difference in power between that and my 92.
240 hp to 185hp.

Sorry to hear about the Lexus. That sucks.
Don't feel too bad about the Buick though. They are very highly rated in term of overall quality and reliability which is rare for an American made car. Unfortunately they do have a drawback of being classified as an "old folks car." Maybe you could take the Buick down to Florida and sell it for a profit to a retiree and then put the $$ back into the Lexus.
I was going to ask about the 3-series & 5-Series, but since you're only 17 I am guesing that those are your parents cars???

the BMWs are my parents yes. Lucky for me they are mine whenever I want them , just cant bring them to school. I could profit off the buick and put it back into the lex. My options are still open as of now. Its not that bad because the mr2 is my summer car (parents have too much trouble getting in and out of it). I really love the classy image of the buick, but hate the fact that its also considered an old folks car. If i could sell it for 8-10 grand and have that to spend on something new.......what would you guys suggest?

If you're working a summer job and could save up $2k more than you would have $10-12 and that would put you into something decent.
I remember when I was in college I had a string of old POS hand-me-downs, but I couldn't complain since they got me where I was going and I never paid more than $200 for them.

Sorry to hear about the Lexus jh. Nothing wrong with the park ave ultra!! Like mentioned, it's a sleeper cause of the "stereotype" of people that usually drive it....but with 240 horses & even more in torque at low RPM's.......she goes like stink!! Nice choice! The rest of my family are Buick owners so I know the car quite well. Good Luck!

Its such a hard decision. Any other american car I would say no way but its reliability is excelent. I love the way it drives, but it just doesnt have that timeless es styling. I do have a summer job where I will be making another $2k over the summer so saving up $10k is possible. I suppose that could get me maybe a 97 or 98 es? Personally I'd love an SC too but the insurance may be too high. Once again a very hard decision. I'd love to just throw the 2 grand into my es to have it fixed but I don't really get anything out of doing that. I'd love a car with low milage Thanks for the support everyone.

Jhenty - I agree with almost everything you're saying. I also will be at the auction by June to get me either an Acura Vigor or a Caprice Classic. I've sat in both cars but they lack the elegance of a Lex. It's unfortunate that you had to give yours up (especially a 92 - because I started with a '94 and I still miss that car).
I don't care what you have to do get back to a Lex (as long as it's legal), just hustle hard and handle yours and the Lexus Forum will be waiting for you.

Keep your 1999 Buick P.A. S/C'd
You'll learn to love it and its cheap to own nature.
My dad's 1996 Bonneville S/C was cheaper to own than the 1992 Lexus ES300 my mom has by thousands of dollars plus it's got 40,000 more miles.

Bone stock it ran 14.5 @ 94.1 mph without removing anything from the car on stock tires. Cars that run that e.t. and mph combo end up having 0-60mph in the upper 5s!!!
Your heavier Park Avenue in cool sea level dry air should do 15.0s to 15.4s at 89-91.x mph. That translates to 0-60mph of well in the 6s. Beat ricers with your grandpappy ride! Trust me that may be your funnest car yet with all the priceless expressions you put on ricers' faces. Trunk worthy of mob bosses. Plus a big Park Avenue as your hooptie will make you look unique and a pimp boy. Girls won't like it at first but when they ride in it and get used to the soothing ride, they'll love riding in it all the time.
Don't mod it too much for hp, the transmission is at its limit from the factory. Just drop in a K&N filter and use Castrol Syntec automatic transmission fluid (best for GM transmissions compared to others).
Parts are cheap on that GM car as well. I'm getting sick of high Lexus car part prices.
