Who Has Experienced The Rear "rattling" Problem
What have you done to fix this?
I have a '96 ES300 with 123k miles and haven't had a problem with the car except replacing one of the front axles. I just got new tires yesterday and the ride is great now, but I'm fed up with the rattling noise in the trunk. I've read a bunch of stuff about it from the search results. A lot of people ask questions about it, but they never really post if they fixed it or not. Now I know most people say it's from the struts, or bushings, but what has everyone who has had this problem done about it? I've also read about a bolt being loose, has anyone corrected it by this way? Thanks.

Hmm sounds there...then wtf could it be without spending the money for struts and fixing it. Did you try to see if the bolts were loose on top of the struts like someone suggested?

I had a dealership replace all 4 struts on mine, front left started rattling too. So I would imagine they would do a decent job... but I have no clue. All I know, is I'm going to try aftermarket next time

Fixed My Rattling
I tried having several places check my ES300 for where the problem was and they all (except one) came up with "It must be something in the trunk". I removed everything from the rear passenger side of the car, including the jack equipment and the problem was still there.
A week ago I had a transmission shop look for the problem and they found what was going on and it was fixed within 10 min. of having the part (comes as a pair). Since my ES300 has almost 200,000 miles and 10 years on it the problem ended up being a dried out sway bar bushing that had shrunk, giving movement to the sway bar that would bump around on the expanded hole of the bushing.
