Hiya
New here, just got my ES - 1993, FANTASTIC car, but my only gripe is I have no CD Player. Normally I'd just go all out, I've been waiting to do a mobile install, but it's not technically my car and I've been banned from doing anything that doesn't look factory. So, my question is, how difficult is it to install the factory CD Changer in a car that doesn't have it already? Price isn't an option, this will be one of the few things I plan to do to this car and certainly less expensive than my other plan, but I want to know what kind of a battle I'm looking at here...
Again, an aftermarket head unit is NOT an option, it MUST be factory.
Thanks in advance...

I just threw my factory 6 disk away @ a landfill on Friday LoL!
It was easy enough to rip out. If you can find one(shouldn't be hard) you should be able to get one in with northing but a day to spend on it.

Don't get the Lex CD player. They are prone to failure and hell to get fixed. Pioneer factory folks wanted $200 just to take a look with no promise of being able to fix. Mine is from a 96 es, and has power supply issues.
Ask the previous poster why he tossed his into the landfill.
I got a Sony tape player adapter for $20. It's pretty good; better than the FM modulators that I tried.
I use it mostly with my 10 gig MP3 player (200 albums vs 6 for the Lexus CD player), and have used a Walkman CD player. Both are as good as the FM.
Going the standard in dash CD method carves up the dash, and you get to give up that great amp that is so well matched to the speakers. Probably at least $400 to buy and install anything decent. I heard several stories that the Lex speakers suck with standard amp. Re-wiring and replacing the Lexus speakers would be high too since I doubt that anything is going to just bolt in the stock mounts.

Well, the problem with the tape adapter route is you get all the same problems you do with tapes - crappy quality, poor connection, noise on the line, and dirt on the reader. The tape adapter simply is not a long term option I'll accept. (I do have one, I'm using it right now...)
Really, I have very few other options here, unfortunately. I'll deal with problems as they arise, but this is basically the only solution that fits my requirements.
I do plan to upgrade the speakers - I've got a hell of a hook on audio gear, and it's not something I intend to pass up. My initial plans for this car were much more ambitious than what I'm doing right now, but that basically got nixed by both practical and financial considerations...
