Default Weird Problem

This problem started like a week ago..every morning when the engine is cold..I hear a quick squeak(like 2 secs) when i start the car but gets worse when I go on reverse..the squeak goes away when I put it on drive. There is no squeak whatsoever when the engine is warm even in reverse. What do you guys think is the problem? Thanks.

It sounds like it could be the serpentine belt squeaking so you may want to consider a new belt.

Used to have the same problem too with my '01 ES. The 90K service I did a while ago took care of it, and now the engine runs smooth and noise-free. Like the Dr. said, that squeaking noise is probably a belt problem, perhaps the serpentine or the timing belt.

The noise does come from the timing belt area..but why it goes away when the engine is warm? Isn't it suppose to squeak all the time if it's a belt problem? Thanks.

My guess is that the belt is temperature-sensitive to the outside. But at any rate, the timing belt area in time will degrade in quality as age and mileage continue on the car, thus requiring for replacement as the owner's manual stated. If the belt is not replaced, the worst thing that can happen is internal damage to components in the engine, causing the person to be stuck somewhere in the middle of the road. Most timing belts should be replaced at 90,000 miles on all Lexus vehicles.
