Question ECT PWR button

WHAT in the heck does that button really do? I am just curious. I have tried it out and all. Is it supposed to give extra power to the engine or what? This may be a dumb question but I like to learn about the car I drive in everyday and what everything is for. Thanks again!

Pretty sure it basically tells the tranny to shift later/higher rpm's

it's used to completely destroy your mpg numbers and your engine's lifespan in order to get to 60 in 0.2 seconds less :-)

in other words, i use it all the time :-)

That will be correct. I actually watched the RPM needle this one time. Without the ECT, it shifts out of 1st gear at 2500 RPM. With ECT on, it shifts around 3000-3200 for me.

Yes, your ECT PWR switch is there to change the transmission shift program from a normal smooth shift pattern, to a more responsive shift pattern that allows the engine to hold each gear longer. Obviously, your fuel economy will drop with ECT PWR on at all times, but it does help when you want a little more response from the tranny. ECT PWR is only found on the older ES models i.e. 90-91 ES250 and the 92-96 ES300 only.

I think Bryan said he has it on his 1st gen. GS also. I remember him telling me he got a little big more MPG when he had it off.
