Buying a 97 98 ES300...
Hello, I will be purchansing a 97 or 98 ES in the next few weeks. I want black on black or Silver with grey interior. I was wondering what is a good price for these years with 90,000 to 120,000 miles. Also what are potential things I should look for to rule out some of these cars.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The 97-98 cars were the most susceptible to the V6 sludge problem, so be sure to check out whether the previous owner(s) kept up with regular oil changes.
Great choice of colors: my '96 is black/black, and I nearly bought a '97 silver/gray, but it had too many miles. The '97 silver is called Oyster and has a hint of gold; one of my co-workers has a '98 in the same color.

When looking into a high mileage '97-'98 ES, check the following issues:
1) Make sure the oil changes have been kept up to date. Engine oil sludge could result from irresponsible oil changes, which would make an ugly appearance when opening the hood
2) If you hear a creaking noise in the rear or front when driving over a road bump or valley, it's possible that the strut mounts need replacing.
3) If the ES has heated seats, make sure they work OK. These heated seats could go suddenly defective, most often seen on the '97 model.
Hope this helps
