I've never tried that before and i've been looking for an intake myself. the only one that i've been able to find is an intake from RS Akimoto. My friend bought that one. He had to custom fabricate a box for the breather to connect to and he had to make brackets to hold the air flow sensor computer and everything.

That's not a real "cold air" induction kit...that's called a low quality short ram intake. Injen makes one for the Camry and Solara V6 version. You can utilize that version on your 97 ES. As for intakes of that nature, only expect a 1-2 hp gain to the wheels only. Not much considering it's drawing hot air from the engine bay. Your OEM intake setup is true cold air induction.

The route I always go is a panel drop in like the K&N or TRD. I wouldn't go with a short ram intake simply because it's too loud and annoying at times, and it actually kills your performance and emissions.
